HF Habs: Trade Proposal Thread #93: Y'all got any more of those 2nd line centers out there?

Here is the proposed deal:
To the Montreal Canadiens:
Sidney Crosby
To the Pittsburgh Penguins:
Kaiden Guhle +
2025 1st-round pick (16th overall) +
2025 1st-round pick (17th overall)

Do you like his offer?
Basu said he would be ready to make this trade if he were in Kent Hughes' and the Montreal Canadiens' position
Has everyone gone completely f*cking crazy???

My god. Barbashev looked horrible. We need good players or just stick with drafting and developing.
He had 43 hits in 11 games. He's an animal. We have a soft team, he’d be a solid winger opposite Demidov. Fellow countryman, strong, 2x Cup winner, good for 50-60 points.

I think it's nap time for Basu.

The search for a RD gonna be tough. I realize now how much of an absolute unicorn Weber was. Could log all kinds minutes, played solid mistake free defense, very physical, mean and yet could pot 20 goals because of his booming shot.

The funny thing about this offer is that Godin was like 'pfff' that's not enough for Crosby!

lol I had the same reaction... Godin stating that wont be enough just make me question reporters knowledge of hockey.
To be fair, it is a unique situation. In a vacuum, a player with his ability and experience should command more on the trade market. But, like others have said, he gets to decide where he wants to play, which should bring down his value significantly.

He's also been adamant about sticking with the Penguins and the only reason people are speculating is that the Penguins suck.

Like, as bad as they were this season, I don't see what has changed from last offseason (when Crosby re-signed early) and now to think he wants to play elsewhere.

Yeah I don’t see it either. He’s in a position to break pretty much all Penguins records if he stays there until retirement. Points next season. Goals in two seasons. He already has the assists record.

OK, people don't like my trade proposal, here's another shot:

Hage, 16th & 17th

For

Caleb Desnoyers

I know its a UFA and not a trade, but what is the highest people would go on a contract for Marner? I think there's a good chance once he's out of the Toronto situation he can turn things around, and the Montreal dressing room would be a good spot for him, even if our media is just as bad as theirs. He could be a good buy low option (relative to his value in the regular season) if he can take advantage of a clean slate.

Slafkovsky - Suzuki - Marner
Demidov - Dach/Acquisition - Caufield

Would give us an elite top 6. First line would be an all league two way line, and the second line would feast on second pairings, especially if Dach gets going or we bring in a proven 2C. The number for Marner (and whether he would even sign here) is obviously the sticking point. We've kept a pretty tight reign on contracts and Marner would definitely want to blow apart our internal cap. There's a good chance he just wants to go sign with some team that plays in market that isn't aware they even have an NHL team, but if he has any ounce of self respect, signing with an up and coming team that is a major rival to the team that cast him out should be a huge motivator. It would feel great for him to have a good playoffs as a member of the Mammoth playing against the Wild or whatever. It would be transcendent for him to finally deliver in the playoffs playing for the Habs against the Leafs.

They just fired a coach he loved, that's when all the talk started again in earnest.

I agree there still isn't really much chance he actually moves, though.

What is the point of trading 3 maybes for 1 maybe? The odds are far greater that one of the 3 maybes is better than the 1 maybe.

I think Desnoyers will be the best player in this trade and he'd be a great French-Canadian player for this franchise.

Yeah you "think"

Well I can't be sure and neither can you. I was under the impression that Desnoyers was a high floor prospect.

You have to take gambles to get what you want.

Quebec players like him don't grow on trees in 2025.

And why wouldn’t the team drafting in that spot think the same thing then? Why would they trade such a player for 3 lesser assets?

The move doesn’t make sense for anyone. We should be adding quality NHLers for these assets, not another player whose upside we are unsure of and whose contributions will be 3-5 years down the line.

Maybe he'll get tired of losing.
Maybe the Pens will finally blow it up after trying to patch it up.
Who knows.

FWIW, i was listening to Greg Wyshynski last week say that Crosby probably won't leave Pitt as long as Malkin is still there.
There were reports this week that next season will probably be the last for Malkin.

He also said that Crosby likely doesn't want to go to Colorado because he wouldn't the top guy there and because of increased travel for western teams.

So maybe next summer...lol
