Predict Doughtys contract extention

I have a very bad feeling that he's gonna ask for the moon, and he's gonna get it. Doesn't seem like the type of guy who would give a discount.

Worried about it. What do you guys think he will get?

Yep. I think he's gone. I don't think we'll have the team to keep him, and the money we'd have to pay him would only make that worse.

On the bright side, he'd get more recognition. At least it will be easy to follow him :laugh: ....:cry:

Why would he stay and waste the second half of his career on a team that can't be competitive? Our only hope is that he loves Manhattan Beach enough and that he decides he already won two cups, so good enough.

Yep, no sense in keeping any of the older players around if they go in that direction. They'll be a blackhole team for perpetuity. Wouldn't make sense to have Quick, Kopitar, Carter, Toffoli, Pearson, Muzzin, Martinez, etc. around if they go that route. They're not going to be able to replace Doughty, so if they go that route, might as well wipe the slate clean.

**** that, I think i'd switch off for a few years if he goes to toronto.
 
We could get a huge haul from Toronto, including Marner. Rebuild the team around Toffoli, Pearson, Vilardi, Marner, etc.
 
I see Doughty leaving for Toronto, even if the Kings play decent.

Doughty is going to test UFA, and I think Toronto will out bid everyone.

The Leafs are already over the cap this offseason and will have both Matthews and Marner to re-sign the same summer Doughty becomes a UFA. They also have Nylander to re-sign next summer.

After they're signed, we'll see if they'll have the cap space to outbid everyone.
 
I remember when Stamkos was a sure bet to sign in Toronto. Leaf fans and the Toronto media like to talk a big game yet rarely deliver

I'll be very surprised if he ends up in Toronto. Most likely he re-signs with L.A.

That said, I certainly wouldn't be surprised if he ends up elsewhere.

I don't know, and I may be the only one, but has anyone ever got the feeling that Doughty doesn't ever seem too invested in the team

That's exactly why a Marner return is likely. Essentially they'd be offloading one huge contract to bring in another.

Blake can only mention Marner in negotiations if Doughty is traded with a year left on his current deal, which means next summer.
