Here's how Macguire sees it, although he hedges his bets by naming 23 skaters.

Brodeur
Theodore
Luongo

Brewer
Philips
Regher
Souray
Foote
Reddon
Schultz
Staios

Bergeron Briere Doan
Draper Gagne Heatley
Horcroff Lecavelier Maltby
Morrisson Nash Richards
St. Louis Smyth Thornton

He says Sakic, Pronger and Blake are definite nos. Iggy and St. Louis are about to become fathers so this mught complicate things.

He also said not to count Mario out yet, that he hasn't said definitely that he won't play.

I like the WC veterans like Horcroff, Staios and Briere. These guys have brought home two championships already. Also, there is the longshot that Bouwmeester is available if the Chi Wolves are eliminated in the AHL playoffs.

Other names? Crosby? Spezza? Might as well start the guessing game.

Solid team once they gel together.Wonder why Sakic,Blake and Pronger are derfinite no's according to Maguire? Looks like Team Canada (if he's correct) is going the route of choosing mostly guys who are playing right now and have experience at the world championships...that's most likely the smarter route,at least it seems more low risk. The defense and offense is a capable mix and the goaltending of course is top notch...always the trump card we can play more then others. I like the team, would like to see j-bo there if he's available and if he is available you can count on one of those d-men being bumped off for him. As for St.louis and Iginla.......hire a nanny for a couple of weeks to give the lady a hand and play!!! But it's o.k if they are not there,we will make do and be competitive.

The real wild card is whether Gretzky manages the team. With his mom diagnosed with cancer, he may not go. This is why the annoncement of the management team has been delayed for two weeks. If 99 does run the team, I have trouble imagining Iggy saying no.

McCabe has more skill. At his best, he is really good. Problem with him is that he makes too many mistakes and takes too many penalties. It would help him a lot to play at this calibre, but he would be a bit of a risk.

Didn't he get cut from a European team this year?

Yes, he was the worst player on the team HV71. One of the worst teams in the league. He had almost no points and minus 10 or something in about 15 games...

Pretty sad comment. You don't have kids, do you?
No i don't but i think you being a little sensitive here,it was a joke man!! Still, i think he should play,it's two weeks and the baby isn't going anywhere soon after all,i doubt he'll be taking his first steps while he's away in that time. Are'nt you being a little over the top here? I mean, this isn't asking someone to go out and break someones ankle is it?

Because so many players have not played of the year and won't play in the tournament, it's hard to see who will play.

I really hope they will put Crosby in the roster. I want to see how the kid would play against NHL players. Like they did with Lindros years ago.

Hockey Canada says Gretzky will announce his decision today (Thursday).

The delay is curious. No one would twist Gretz's arm, particularly given the circumstances around his mom. But, on the other hand, it's not like 99 to dither like this.

It occurs to me that maybe Canada might be playing possum, let other teams relax and then announce a blue-chip line-up. Of course, it also occurs to me that such a thought is homerism at its purest!

I´d say the goalies are Theodore, Giguere and Manny Fernandes. Unless some big name is coming (Brodeaur) or theres injuries. Also Dwayne Roloson has been good the whole season.

Brodeur wants to be there. So Marty, Theo and . . . who? Certainly Luongo has been key at the last two Worlds and the World Cup, but is he ready?

Also, word is that Theo won't go if he is third goalie.

Some people are so funny.

For example take last year's World Cup. After a long summer break, every team gathers its players for a 10-day training camp, and all of a sudden, everyone's in shape.

Now the question is whether Luongo or Iginla are ready ...

The Edmonton Sun reported yesterday that he is miffed about that last-minute negotiation ploy. It says he feels burned by the players.

This might explain the continuing delay -- they're still trying to talk him into it.

There are degrees of fitness. A guy coming out of a 10-camp may be fit but he's not in as good of game shape as a guy who's been playing all year. It's a no-brainer. Everybody was in the same boat for the World Cup, but the world championship is going to be much different. Do you go with guys who have been playing all year and forget guys like Iginla and Fedorov or go with a mix? The country that gets the combination right is going to win.

I agree with this. I was just trying to point out the fact that the Canada/World Cup is played before the hockey season, and some players are really not "in the game". But nobody seemed to care in September.

Now I really wonder whether Iginla is going to play.

And how about Crosby?

Crosby might not be available. Rimouski is one of the best junior teams in the country, so there is a good chance he'll still be in the playoffs.

Iggy would never turn down Gretzky, but I have a feeling 99 has said no to Hockey Canada. The delay now is in nailing down the second choices for a management team. Course, I hope I'm wrong.
