Predict Canada's Roster

Funny thing is, you almost want a break. Gretzky, the lucky loonie -- all the things that have contributed to Canada's recent international run. Sometimes the mystique surrounding these things can be too much.

I'm a Habs fan, and I got so tired hearing about the Forum ghosts -- cause those ghosts weren't much on the ice when push came to shove.

So, if Gretzky does pull out and Canada still wins, well. . . it'll prove that the country is stronger than one man. . . and I'll be pretty insufferable around here for about 24 hours!

Brodeur
Luongo
Theodore

Niedermayer
Redden
Souray
Phaneuf
Bouwmeester
Brewer
Foote
Regehr

Thornton
Heatley
Lecavalier
Briere
Nash
Morrison
Doan
Smyth
St. Louis
Carter (as in Jeff)
Bergeron
Iginla
Draper

That's too bad, but he made the right decision. Tambellini might not have the arm-twisting might of Gretzky, but Canada will still be fine.

Tambellini just said on the Fan 590 that Crosby wouldn't be invited. I may have misheard him, but I think he said this applies to all junior players.

Here's my prediction.
LW - C - RW
Tanguay - Briere - Heatley
Nash - Thornton - Iginla
Smyth - Morrison - Bertuzzi
Morrow - Draper - Bergeron

-D-
Niedermayer - Aucoin
Souray - McCabe
Bouwmeester - Boyle

-G-
Brodeur
Luongo
Turco

I think 13 of 18 skaters have played/are playing this year.

Horcoff, Brewer and Staois will be on the team... just a hunch, but guys who've played and had lots of success in this tournament before will be back.

You forgot about Nagano already?

I didn't give a thing that time ... I was even disappointed that Canada didn't get in the final because all I wanted was a Russia-Canada clash! :(

I revised my lines, these should be closer to the final product:

LW - C - RW
Smyth - LeCavalier - Heatley
Nash - Thornton - Briere
Tanguay - Morrison - Bertuzzi
Morrow - Draper - Doan
xtra: Bergeron

-D-
Niedermayer - Aucoin
Regehr - Jovanovski
Redden - Hannan
xtra: Souray

-G-
Brodeur
Luongo
xtra: Turco

I think 12 of 20 skaters have played/are playing this year.

Forget Dan Brière on the Canadian roster, according to the Swiss Paper Berner Zeitung he's having a hip injury and he won't play at the worlds.

Why don't they add Niedermayer?

That's a good question. Nobody seems to be talking about him at all and I haven't read anything that would suggest he won't play. He can make up for a little lack of fitness with his skating ability and smarts alone.

I'm starting to get worried about the amount of injuries and no-shows on this Canadian team. Is it just me or do a lot of Canadian hockey wives seem to be about to give birth this time of year every year?

April/May minus 9 months = September/August/July ... that's when the players are on vacation, that's when they spend their time with their wives, and that's when they do "it"

Anyone think Spezza might get a call? There are a fair number of veteran TC centers not playing for one reason or another.

I hope so, as I think Spezza will be a fixture for Canada in future tournaments.

But because Binghampton is playing well right now, they still might be in the playoffs when camps are set to open.
