There are deep scars among the Czech’s from the Soviet Union’s brutal invasion and occupation a number of years ago. People died and families destroyed. There are deeper issues at work here and a hockey game or two isn’t the issue or frankly very important. I know Trenin(and others) had no part in that but Russians did and they’re not well liked there and I’m not surprised at these rumors. Preds just need to get in, play and get out. Let games be games and politics be politics.

Jagr's number was the same year the Soviets invaded. It runs deep. Just see it as two games off for Trenin

I have an unpopular opinion. I get sissons is a fan favorite as he should be but when do we let one of these young guys take his spot. Every game I watched last year he seemed like a bystander on the herd line and not much of a contributor. I’ve always like sissons defensive game but if it isn’t this year then I would like to see his job be put on the line with one of these kids in this came or maybe even glass next year . In my opinion Parssinen could fit in really nice between jeannot and trenin. I don’t know food for thought

I agree with you. Especially, his $3 mil we could really use that come next summer. I think Pärssinen or Glass could replace him in a year.

If we'd trade him, we would have $15 mil in cap space going into 23-24 season.

Hm, you say "bystander" whereas I saw Sissons as really doing a lot of behind-the-scenes unappreciated work to enable the Herd Line. He's always in position defensively, always make the subtle little plays that apparently go unnoticed. I consider him to be a huge contributor to that line and an ideal 3C.

I don't see Glass as the kind of player who can replace him. But if Parssinen keeps coming on... that's certainly an option down the road. I'm not sure it would mean moving Sissons entirely though. On a Contender if you had Sissons as your 4C and a really strong 4th line, that's a bonus. It might not even matter what you call the "3rd line" and the "4th line". But as always you just have to keep tabs on all the moving parts, see if Sissons' game drops off in the next couple years, see where Parssinen's game gets to, what the Cap considerations boil down to.

In the end, the idea goes in the same basket to me as a ton of other potential considerations. Do we have to move Carrier for Cap reasons if he gets a raise, or consider Fabbro instead, or do we move Trenin before he becomes UFA, etc, etc. There are dozens of branches out there, but they simply have to play the games first before we can really go down any of them.

Not a commentary on Sissons but in order to move in the young prospects some veterans must leave. Like Kunin and Cousins. Also like Boro who accepted a minimum deal and gave up a top 6 position to stay here. Now the “$ guys” are still unmovable so, yes, Sissons would be a candidate to move and several others in the smaller dollar arena. And if a player is a good prospect, gets his opportunity and doesn’t cut it quickly then there are others awaiting. Competition is highlighted right now. By the way, the big $ guys are falling into more acceptable $ as contracts escalate and someone could be on the market soon. Don’t recall the Preds being in this position at forward ever.

Only real $ contracts i think that can be moved from the forward group are Granlund, Nino, and Sissons.

Duchene and Joey maybe movable if they repeat last year but if duchene repeats last year you dont want to move him.

Granlund/joey could be moved if glass has a great year and looks poised to be 2C but thats probably a stretch.

Nino will only have 1 year leaft after this season and itd probably be a bad look to trade him just a year after signing him as UFA

Sissons does alot of good things defensively that would be harder to replace than his production. Still hes the most likely to be able to replace in the short term. It would open up about 2 million after replacing sissons with someone like novak/Afanasyev/etc. Thats probably enough to cover fabbros extension so its a pretty good chunk.

Sissons took more face offs than anyone on the team and had the highest face off winning percentage on the team. Not sure I’d consider that a bystander.

Dude, they have no control over that, why punish them.
I don't think they look at it as punishing the individuals. It's more a collective "hey, we don't approve of what your country is doing... if you don't like the way we show our disapproval, maybe consider advocating for change." They don't have "control", but in large enough numbers they could have some "influence"? :dunno:

Although I don't know how well that will actually work based on any Russians I've known. Many are fairly supportive of the Putin regime in general, and it's probably just as likely to make them harden their stance? :dunno:

Sissons being solid defensively and on faceoffs is a massive understatement. The guy was a juggernaut on the dot for stretches last year, especially in his own zone. He was the best defensive FO guy in the league for a fair stretch of play. I agree he doesn't exactly excite in the offensive zone, but I think he's harder to replace than some are making it out here...especially with an unproven rookie.

Kindof glosses over any possible repercussions family living in russia could face

OK, I had a deep think about the no Russian rule in Prague. This will be first regular season games. So, what Russians do we honestly have to worry about? Trenin, yes. Askarov? If he blows everyone away. Afanasyev, maybe. Those are all the signed contracted Russians. The rest of the contracts are North Americans and Northern Europe.

If I was the front office, have an open to the public scrimmage/ practice for the Russians and Milwaukee guys in Nashville. Or if Trenin is beat up, give him a blow. It's only for 2 games. The Bern game is an exhibition and last game of Pre-season. The 2 Czechia games are the first 2 games of the regular season.

Anyway, I don't think the Preds should need to do much about it. If it's the country rule that no visas are available to Russians, then they simply cannot bring Trenin no matter what. If the NHL wants to ask for some kind of special exemption, then the NHL can ask, but it's kind of above the Preds level and out of their hands.

Chat with Trenin, see if he cares about making the Euro excursion at all knowing he only gets 1 exhibition game or if he'd rather stay back in Nashville. Preds are going to have to set their team sooner than most, I can't see Afanaseyev or Askarov being in the equation given this. Give those guys lots of games against Florida and Tampa, then bid adieu.

First I’ll admit not understanding politics here, much less international politics. But I do not hold the NHL blameless and place all the blame on Prague. This was all decided jointly and scheduled months ago. Please don’t tell me the Russian player connection never came up. I think this potential(banning Russians) was well known by the NHL.
