Only 2 forward cuts anyways but no chance Barzal would be cut.
Strome
Point
Beauvillier
Stephens

There is a chance Barzal has no role on this team. They will want a 13th forward who can play wing or center or in multiple roles. He also had a poor game IMO. I believe there is a good chance he is cut.

I see Barzal as the 13th forward. He is security in case Point can't play.

Can we talk about... something else than showmanship?
Because that's about the most insignificant criteria for selection, along with the respective Grade 12 Chemistry Grades of those players.

I was wrong about Hickets. He's been elite so far this year. Really developped since last year. Chabot transition game is incredible...so smoooth

Mckeown having a good game tonight. No clue why Dermott get so much PP Time...he's been our worse D tonght with Hickey in transition and defensively.

Merkley bring Nothing...
ll keep Chartier..he's a sparkplug....while Quennevile and Hwryluk can fight for hot-do eaters. Both are bang-on avg 4th liners.

The 2ND PP unit has been better.

Virtanen has been invisible as usual...absolute joke that we have to play this 3rd liner in our TOP 6 over Kocknecky-Beauvillier:(

Marner was worse and twice as invisible as JV was.

Some vocal fans from the past few days seem to be worse with Virtanen. Are we supposed to praise him even when he's not doing much on the ice?

Not gonna praise him at all, but I watched both games, and focused on JV every shift.

And he was no worse then the rest of the players minus a few, the problem I have with JV is that he is not crashing and banging, and is playing way to much in the perimeter, in the third he drove the net, that's what he HAS to do to be successful.

His defensive game has come a long way, but overall I have been unimpressed with him as a whole.

Calling him a 3rd liner, and terrible tho like that poster was complete ********, and is just looking to start drama.

oh and also, please don't assume I am some big virtanen supporter, I was screaming for Nylander when we were drafting.

This is Virtanen's draft + 2 year and he is a returnee, the expectations are going to be higher than some of the younger guys. It's not like the criticism isn't warranted. He just want noticeable in a good way at all this this game. Hope he picks it up as we desperately need him to produce offense.

I didn't see this game so I can't talk. But every other time I watch him I like him. I'd rather see him as 3C and Beauvillier on wing.

Just a fyi

Marner is 18 playing in a 19 yo tournament, he's expected to contribute, but not dominate. Virtanen is a full year older, and has played in the NHL, he should be dominating every time he touches the puck. Hard to believe that guy got drafted ahead of Nylander.

Even McDavid was getting a lot of criticism last year until his excellent medal round. I think expectations are just too high for 17/18 year olds in general. Some around here had Barzal ranked top 5 in the draft, above Marner, and he looks to be on the bubble.

I agree with you.

Let's hope he is saving his main style of play for the actual games, and not the per-tourny games.

Pretty amazing how many people said Barzal is better than Zacha based on their production in juniors. Barzal should be the 13th forward IMO. Zacha, on the other hand, is a beast, looked great in this game. Easily the Czechs best player.

It's not far fetched, but the few minutes that Merkley and Hawryluk played seemed to indicate that they are done. Hockey Canada has been preaching an approach featuring more skill throughout the whole forward group, and that helps Barzal. He was very bad today though, and certainly looked like he was afraid of being cut.

Dermott didn't impress me much today. The rookie camp he looked amazing.
Marner played decent, but I loved watching him.
I'm really hoping Virtanen starts bullying other teams like he should.

This is the biggest reason I am disappointed with him so far, this is a guy who is knock for his tool kit, he hits like a freight train when he wants too, but instead he is trying to play this weird perimeter game, it does not suit him at all.

In the 1st game, people were bouncing off him, I thought he played pretty well, in the 2nd game he was like many other canada forwards, pretty tame, disinterested, drove the net on one occasion.

The difference is that Virtanen has a wealth of experience, he does not get the benefit of the doubt, let's hope this is just him relaxing until the real games start, could be the case 2bh.

Virtanen probably has some rust to shake off his game. I doubt the coaching staff is worried about him yet.

Pretty amazing how some people use one pre-tournament game as evidence to support their (homer) opinions that Zacha is better than Barzal. I liked Barzal better at the draft, and I still like him more now. One game doesn't change ****. \

There's no point for Virtanen to play on the edge in pre tournament games....he'll step it up in the tournament
