If this Caps team doesn't at least go to the Stanley Cup, they may never. They are rediculously talented with goaltenders who are playing impossibly well. I could see that being the Achilles heal if their tandem starts to waver.

didn't holtby come like a win or two from setting the single season wins record last year?

this is nothing new

You make an (obvious) good point.

However winning the East or even Metro :amazed: might be as hard, if not harder, than beating the WC playoff rep. NHL and sports history overall shows that many teams with strong reg seasons just don't win it all. Too much can happen against, lots of parity.

The Canes didn't play that badly. That's the scary thing. This effort would have beaten a lot of teams tonight.

Ten straight games with 5+ goals at home. 150+ straight shutout minutes.

That's just a scary, scary team right now.

Its mind-blowing they have never advanced past round 2 with Ovechkin on the roster. If someone had told me that in 2008 I would have laughed at that person.

But this could be the year.

Hey, if the Canes can win 3 and lose 1 in a 4 game stint, I'll take that easily. Just no more 5-game skids.

Sorry to bother you all but this GDT is hilarious. Our GDTs are usually boring ***** fests, so this is really refreshing to read.

Good luck down the stretch.

Man it would be nice to have the team I live closest to be a team the Canes could beat on the road. But I know what to expect at this point when I do get to go up here. They lost a with a bloody 9 game win streak when they won the Cup and the Caps were awful. I was pretty happy after two when we were only down by two. Really thought we might be able to keep it to just 2-0. But hey, the Caps are really good. I still think we have some good left in us this season with how things line up. Just need to move on to a win against a mediocre Dallas team before the break.

Not that we ever had a chance here, but if we don't get rid of Eddie LackOfAbility this offseason I'm going to be livid. Dude needs to be bought out at this point.

Hard to imagine any scenario other than that. I can't imagine bringing him back, or someone taking him, even as a reclamation (outside of a super cheap contract after he's bought out).

Correct me if I’m wrong, but I believe a Lack buyout would cost $1 mil in real salary in each of the next two seasons.

That’s reasonable. The organization could buy him out and sign or trade for a backup that makes up to $2 mil in real salary without having to reallocate the budget.

Yeah, there's really no reason to keep him around. If he finds his game somewhere else, more power to him, but everything he's shown in a Canes uniform has been awful.

Yep. 1 million per in salary, and cap hit of 750K then 1M

We can EASILY find a better backup and buy him out for less then the cost of his contract next season.

I wanted Lack to succeed so bad in a Canes uniform. He's such a nice guy and has a great personality. It sucks to see him not be able to link together a few good games. But I'm in agreement that if we wanna go places he's gotta go /:

Lack was not good. The team was not good.

<rant!>

But I think the blame for this loss should sit squarely on Peters and the coaching staff's shoulders. What did they think would happen when the put Eddie in for the first time in months against the leagues best team and then switched up the defensive pairings and forward lines in front of him from what has been working the last few games? Then on top of that foolish experiment, to then switch the units again midway through game?!? Why try them at all if you are not willing to commit to them for the game? Just to get the Caps a nice lead? Stupid.

And yet, it's the exact same result that Cam produced.

Also, the same result that the Caps last TEN home opponents produced.

Well, we've been God awful on the road all year, and we're typically God awful against this particular team on the road. Not sure I see the problem in trying something different to turn that around. I get on the surface those don't seem like the best way to win, but when nothing else works, sometimes you just go "what the ****".

1) they really didnt play that bad, in fact, it was mostly the caps that played real good

2) lack wasnt terrible, esp in the second period he made a couple of really good saves

3) if the canes miss the playoffs i am jumping on the caps bandwagon, ovechkin needs a cup and williams winning 4 cups would be pretty sweet

4) aho and faulk of all pairings work really well together on the pp

5) lindholm is realgood

they have been doing this to everyone, in fact i think i read a stat that its the first time since 1990 that a team has scored 5 goals in 5 straight home games, or something like that. they are on fire, and winning 3 of 4 is great

in fact, we might do the same thing again in the next four. dallas is winnable, colorado is winnable, toronto will be a good game, then we will get run out of the building by pittsburgh. if we win three straight, we'll get all pumped, then we get destroyed by pitt and people will be sad.

I can't get too upset about losing in Washington; everyone does. The Verizon center has been an absolute meat grinder this season. If we lay an egg in Dallas then I'll be more worried

That's pretty much it. It's unrealistic to expect this team to win every remaining game. They're going to lose some of them. So it's better to play the odds.

Starting Lack seems odd, but if this loss means Lack won't have as much rust if he starts against Colorado (for example), then it was worth it.

Sacrificing the present to hopefully improve the odds in the future.

Maybe we can pay Vegas to take Lack for their back-up. And then either trade for Fleury or try hard at signing Bishop July 1st. He's a good guy, but damn he's terrible.

Oh well, I'm glad I turned the game off after the 2nd. Something told me this game was going to be a blow out. Instead I finished up Season 4 of The Americans.

Miller, Bishop, Bernier, Mason, Elliott, Ochocinco, Neuvirth, Kuemper, Kinkaid, Darling

all those guys are set to be UFAs after the year. Even if some of them don't get to UFA, all would be an upgrade over Lack.

Can't be mad at that game. A backup who hadn't started since Halloween vs the best goalie in the league playing in the house of the best team in the league by a mile. Would have taken a miracle for the Canes to win.
