Forbort looks legitimately horrible. On the 2-0 goal the problem wasn't that he deflected the puck in, it was that he looked like he was skating in molasses when Ryan Winterton carried the puck in on the zone entry that led to the goal. Danny Dekeyser type stuff if you remember his preseason a couple years ago.

All 3 young defenders had good periods. Felton has a lot more evasiveness and puck skill than his NCAA statline would suggest and has dealt with the forecheck pretty impressively.
Felton looked like one of the most mobile of the D in training camp. Went in not knowing anything about him and came out impressed.

People getting to see how dreadful Forbert is. Terrible skater who is getting beat at the blue line or simply giving blue line up. First goal he doesn't take the man going to the net and that player deflects puck in. Second goal he is too slow to take his man at the blue line and partner has to move across to pick up the man ending up with Seattle possession in the Vancouver end. Then goes and screens the goalie and has puck tip off him into the net. At the end of the period does a prat fall and then staggers around the defensive a zone. Juulsen looks like super star compared to Forbert.

Created a problem for themselves here and and everyone knew Forbert was trash.

Sassons throughout the pre season has had his line establishing good o-zone time. He did create chances again in this game. Frankly seems to be ouplaying than Suter.

Klimovich plays every thing so rashly. Always seems to nervous and intense. If he could just play within himself and not be so jittery.

Some of the young defensemen showing decently - Felton actually seems confident and decent with the puck. Like how Forbert slaps puck over to Felton to let Felton figure a way to get the defense out of trouble.

Blais skating looks fine. If he can get his wheels back he could contribute.

From what I always heard that the Canucks sport and entertainment owned or were affiliated with Utica but weren't really controlling it. They were supposed to supply it with coaches and a few players but it was mandated to win and not worry about prospects. Robert Esche was president and wasn't part of Canucks staff like Ryan Johnson is.
The Canucks supplied the coaches and the vast majority of the players and were very much in control. What you're writing was the situation they'd had years earlier with the Chicago Wolves.

The Canucks certainly didn't make an attempt to make the Comets a winning squad. The one year they made it past the first round of the playoffs the Comets had a good team put together by Lorne Henning, one of the Canucks' assistant general managers. Benning's response to Henning's work was to fire him in the summer of 2015 and never again did they make an attempt to supply the veterans necessary to develop young players and help the farm team win. The AHL squad became simply a place to stash extra depth and players they no longer wanted in Vancouver.
