Gabriel is different breed y'all....... look at the bench. The man is talking to HIMSELF on the bench. Not like other human beings do. Only roberts, gary did that on the bench of the penguins playoffs during his last final playoff season. Maybe claude lemieux. Roy. Sundin, maybe and Clark.

Gabriel is totally different, last of a dying breed. HE DONT give a flying F what others think. He shows example and wants it, hard. The mans confidence is flying high cause of mikayla.
Haha! great post

He no doubt is a more offensive player than Liljegren, but where Liljegren really has the advantage is in his mobility and two way play. I prefer Liljegren myself but like Sandin's IQ in the offensive zone.

I think Liljegren size and speed is more suitable for the current Leafs.
Sandin might be amazing for 59mins and 40 secs, but in that 20 secs, he will lose in a footrace and the opposing team scores.

Lily also has a nice shot actually. Lily's outlet passes are pretty solid. I might even go on to say his outlets from what Ive seen is 2nd only to Rielly on the Leafs

Lily's hockey IQ is pretty good IMO

He's not going to get a chance to use it here. He will play the PK and v5 hard minutes. I think he is built for it. I just hope he is given a legit chance. Sandin - Holl is a great 3rd pairing

Cuz one is flashy and one is "steady on the rudder" as Babcock would say. People's eyes are drawn into the wow factor. Sandin has that in his game. Lilly is the obvious choice if you want a shutdown guy and another PK Dman. However if I'm a betting man, it's Sandin that's on the team opening night

Lily is as good offensively too IMO, its a freakin JOKE that Sandin is allowed more room to make mistakes but not Lily.

that's true. the team still has talented players worth watching night in night out.
To me, it more to do with how the players are playing. I understand the opposing team could just be playing great too but you still need to show up, finish your checks....Gabriel is gasing out there but when he saw a potential hit, he jumped right in. Those hits won't go un-notice on the bench.

I like both a lot. If it were up to me I would move one of Dermott or Holl before the season and rotate the other in and out.

I think both should be given a real good chance to play for the Leafs this year (~15 games each; more if they play okay or good).

If Liljegren can play his game in the NHL like he has done in the AHL, he would be a great playoff addition for us.

Lily and Sandin's offensive numbers are comparable at the AHL level. Lily should be given a chance and allowed to make mistakes like Sandin has been offorded so far IMO

Sandin plays with confidence because he hardly gets benched when he screws up; Lily always gets benched when he makes a mistake and didn't get many minutes -> leads to Lily playing in a shell and holding his stick tighter

they gotta tell Lily go do your thing IMO

Tavares reminds me of Roy Kent.

Both Holl and Dermott are signed for 2 years. Why not have 7 dmen who could all be top 5 (potentially top 4) dmen?

Rielly - Brodie
Muzzin - Holl
Dermott - Liljegren
Sandin

If Lilly and Sandin can perform like they're capable of, I would love for each of them to be involved in the Leafs defense this year and have 1 guy constantly knocking on the door to take another player's spot.

I won't disagree with you. Lilly was an offensive guy out of the draft. Leafs have done everything to get him to change his game into a shutdown style of Dman. Sandin is drafted and has been given all sorts of rope to play his style game. It's confusing for sure. But it's clear the organization is leaning towards Sandin. I don't have a good reason why either
