Yeah, because Byfuglien / Schiefele / Wheeler were such a bust on Sunday, what with "doing what this trio did, but 10 seconds faster" and all.

HAVING SAID THAT

Yes, I'd like the debates to be about which trio wins us the 3v3 OT faster en route to crushing it all season ;)
I didn't say that, I just said I wanted to see Ehlers more. I don't think that's all that controversial really.

Wasnt Enstrom the worst Dman in the top 6 during that playoff run?

From the eye test i believe so. But i need your confirmation with that stats if you have them :)

I will say he struggled in his 11 games.
I will also say he was *VERY* under-appreciated in his 43 regular season games.

Everyone will weight those two samples differently...

If you combine both samples together and look at the Jets 8 defenders to play 400+ mins:

Game Score
* 8th in game score (a measure primarily driven by scoring offense)

Corsi (shot volume)
* 1st in relative Corsi (how good a team outshoots with player on ice vs on bench)
* 6th in relT CF/60 (measure of how linemates are affected in producing shots)
* 1st in relT CA/60 (measure of how linemates are affected in preventing shots)
6th in relT C% (measure of how linemates are affected when combining CF and CA)

xGoals (shot volume with shot quality)
* 2nd in rel xGoals
* 1st in relT xGoals
* 5th in relT xGF/60
* 1st in relT xGA/60

I know it was PS quality opponents, but if Ehlers can develop something with Roslovic, I want this

Laine-Scheifele-Wheeler
Perreault-Little-Vesalainen
Connor-Roslovic-Ehlers
Tanev-Lowry-Copp

Please, please, please

I wouldn't mind these lines except I would consider the Perreault line as the 3rd line, with the Connor line being the 2nd line.

Good win, only two more sloppy games of preseason to go.

Players:

Brossoit let in a few stinkers today but also made some good saves.

Poolman was bad yet again, imo he has played his way off the team. Just poor defense and sub par decision making.

Kulikov still looks a bit out of sorts.

Chariot was bad again.

Niku burried his two chances with that great shot of his. He also showed some nice retrival and puck movement skills in his own end. He however also displayed his weakness in his own end. His gap is pretty bad especially considering his skating. He also served up a couple of pizzas. On most teams there would be a spot for him but his two potential RD partners are also offense first guys with ok and poor defensive ability. Not too far off especially if he can polish off a few things over the next month or so in the AHL. Given how Maurice trusted a guy like Postma Niku will have to clean some stuff up to be an every day player on Maurice's defense.

Morrissey continued to round into form and played well in all situations. He showed some nice puck moving and QB ability on the PP.

Trouba had an awful first but seemed to up his game after. Hopefully he will be good to go after one more preseason game.

Ehlers was shooting the puck well and was looking more like himself tonight. He was also finally used correctly on the PP. His goal was exhibit A on why he should be playing on his offside where he is in a better shooting position. Play him with Morrissey and let JoMo tee him up.

Roslovic showed well again in the middle. Played strong both ways and was winning faceoffs.

Lemieux played well again but his decision making offensively couldn't quite keep up with the other two. I would like to see Dano with them next game.

Suess with another good game. Its hard to see where he will end up given he is already a fairly old prospect but he has more game then I thought he did.

Lipon also played a hard game.

The other players really aren't worth mentioning.

Everybody wants to see that first line.
That second is a no go. Vesalainen is not in for 100 games of maximum hockey. Vesalainen might bee good, but not physically ready.
Ehlers being a superhero, why would you dump him in the third line?

Dano is only 23 for crying out loud.
Come on, Ducky, that's pretty old for a guy who can't dress regularly in the NHL. You are pretty much at a make or break situation there.

I've liked his preseason a lot though. I don't think that Petan has a snowballs chance in hell of making the team out of camp (especially with his unfortunate family situation).

Dano and Everberg are the guys I'd like to see crack the opening night roster.

No chance.

I've loved him but he's too much of a liability right now. He needs to get stronger defensively.

yeah I think I was getting dollar signs in my eyes after that second goal. Upon further reflection, a bit more of that Moose seasoning is called for.

But boy oh boy does he excite the imagination when he shows those flashes.

I though Lemieux-Roslovic-Ehlers got stronger as the game went on. Lemieux did the dirty work on the PP goal. Roslovic-Ehlers have unreal speed together.

Jets are going to have a killer 3 on 3 this year.

Also excited if the Jets top 3 RW are Wheeler, Laine, Ehlers. That's Jacques Martin Ottawa Senators (Alfie/Hossa/Havlat) good.

Niku is making a good showing to replace Morrow in the lineup during the season. Jets got by with so many minor league forwards by dressing 6 NHL caliber d-men.

Morrissey-Trouba were mostly in forme. Same with Tanev-Lowry-Copp.

Griffith impressed me with the passing. 1st goal came from a terrific neutral zone pass by him. His sauce to Ustaski would have been a goal, if it were many other a winger.

I know most think he is AHL bound, but I am sure there are a few in the Jets brass who may see him ahead of Petan to start the year. Being RH makes him a better option to fill in at RW where the Jets are thin. He is a guy that could be lost if he goes to waivers.

Honestly, if both Lemieux and Griffith make the team, Veselainen goes back to Europe, and Petan gets traded, there is no one on the Moose to step in. Appleton and Spacek have been subpar. Seuss is probably the most NHL ready of the rest of the forwards. And then Kerdiles.

Brossoit wasn't all that sharp. Wins are wins, even if they don't count.

I'd say that Lowry, Copp and Tanev are worth mentioning. They had another strong game, especially Lowry. He's so smart and physically dominant.

I thought Trouba was excellent. Morrissey, too.

Niku struggled defensively, as you noted. On the Flames 3rd goal Chiarot and Niku gave a huge gap and basically both backed into their crease. It was terrible.

I really can't figure out what Maurice plans for his D. Right now it looks like a dog's breakfast outside of the Morrissey-Trouba pair.

Ehlers was flying. He basically drove that line. You could see some nice chemistry developing with Roslovic as the game wore on.

Post-game audio: Suess, Niku and Ehlers.

Coach Maurice post-game scrum topics: On Nikolaj Ehlers game. When did the game feel comfortable for him? Niku’s offensive game but his desire to play better. What has allowed CJ Suess to look so comfortable for a rookie?

I always thought Niku was a short guy, it looked like he was a little taller then Kulikov.
Not short

Just a bit shorter that Laine.

I was commenting in that Finnish hockey game thread about how he must have sprung up a bit over the summer.

So are we deep or thin at RW? :naughty:

I'd say we're pretty deep - Wheeler, Laine, Vesalainen (potentially), Tanev, Dano, Petan (potentially)

Nice thanks

Yeah i was mostly focusing on his contribution during the playoffs.

But going forward he is on a steep decline already.

He would have been ok still (this year in the regular season ) with Myers at the bottom pair. But that cap hit would have been big for that pair even if Enstrom took a slight discount i would think.

Thanks

I'm just referencing him pretty much being a kid himself. I'd understand if he was 24 or 25 but Dano has some good play under his belt in the NHL. I thought he got a bit of a raw deal last season, he should have played more than he did.

Ehlers just has so much potential if he can fully tap into it.
I liked Lemieux on that line. He has a lot of speed now and his battle in the corners and in front of the net is a nice compliment to Ehlers and Roslovic.
Trouba got better as the game went on. Thankfully.
Seuss has a potential 3rD of 4th line NHL career ahead of him.
Lipon could play on some NHL teams.
Roslovic has a lot more in him than he showed tonight.

Smith makes me feel like goalies should be fair game if they're in the trapezoid. At least there should be some level of body play that's allowed, players shouldn't have to walk on eggshells to avoid getting a penalty.

Also, can goalies not get high sticks? Because Smith has had about 3.
Officials were horrible tonight
