Dude if it's between Muzzin or Sandin chasing down a quick penalty killer I'd much rather see it's Muzzin. Sandin legit looks like he's skating on soft ice out there compared to anyone else

I definitely think pp1 should be either Rielly or Muzzin. I know there’s been a lot of chatter about it, but I personally don’t see what Sandin offers to the power play that Rielly doesn’t.

A better shot from the point and uses it as a threat but that's it. Reilly is better at literally every other aspect of running the PP

Personally, if it were me calling the shots, I don’t put sandin on the poweplay. I don’t think he’s needed there. I tell him to focus on his 5v5 play and get comfortable. And I sprinkle in some 2nd unit pp as reward.

I’m hoping Marner worked on his shot in the off season.

reason Point works so well in that bumper spot is because he’s always looking for the one timer, just like every other player on that PP.

Pass, one timer or pass fake one timer pass one timer

I said before I want a PP where every player is able to shoot. I'd take someone who can scores goals over a playmaker on the PP any day of the week

Point doesn't have a booming shot either, but he is able to score off of one-timers. Marner needs to be able to get better shots off if he wants to have anything remotely close to Point's success in that spot, and to this point in his career, he hasn't shown that he can consistently score goals from distance, or off of one-timers, or from snipes, unless it hits off someone or the goalie is heavily screened and it finds a hole. Marner scores most of his goals in tight, usually by way of his hands or by being in the right place at the right time.

He might score a few goals, but it is not going to be enough for him and I think you'd be able to find a bunch of other guys who can have just as much, if not more, success in that spot at that point.
The idea with Marner in the bumper position is that he isn't a threat to score. Teams might give him a lot more space for him to create magic in that area. And if they play tight to him like teams do for every team that plays a bumper player, it opens up passing lanes for Willy, and Mats.

nothing wrong with that idea.

never forget that point shots are still the worst of all PP shots, even if the guy has a big shot.

I've never met a coach that thinks point shots are high percentage looks, but that doesn't mean they are unimportant. Point shots create rebounds and deflections, and open up ice as penalty killers have to get up on shooters to deny them. It also sucks to get in front of a point shot which creates its own advantages. Tampa Bay and Washington are two great pp's that employ point shots historically.

quit confusing the issues with facts

I agree with Zeke on 90% of what he says, but this is an example of missing the forest for the trees. Everyone knows that Marner is a talented player, but when the game changes in April he does not compare to Point and you really don't need to look at any numbers to discern why. Point hunts the puck relentlessly, attacks the middle of the ice and is consistent in his details. I think Marner has the ability to do that, but Point has actually done it consistently.

Kampf-Kase duo get an early chance to shut down a big line in Drouin-Dvorak-Anderson.
Also, would love to see Ritchie and Anderson drop the mitts

It also helps that Point has Stamkos and Kucherov on his flanks as one time threats that have to be covered and Hedmans shot up top. That whole pp is basically pick your poison.

If ppl were frustrated by Mika missing chances and not scoring wait until you watch Kampf

At least Mika gets chances this guy doesn't even get those

Hes essentially another Travis Boyd and I would argue has better offensive upside

Liljegren should be given a legitimate chance to beat out Dermott.

Trust me, I’ve been advocating for Liljegren to be on the team since last off-season.

This year it’s even more apparent.

He and Muzzin looked great the other night. They compliment each other incredibly well.

Seems odd they would use Kivihalme over Rubins and Dahlstrom. The latter two have a better chance of being NHLers for us this year, while Kivihalme realistically should not be taking up space in our organization by the end of training camp.

He's a shutdown C. C is more valuable than W. We didn't have a guy to be a true C on the PK. We put Spezza in to try and win draws and then get off. I don't think Kampf wants to be top 6 either...
