Wait, are you suggesting we take Bob for free? Only way I’d touch him is if we were getting PAID to take him. No reason to be doing Florida any favours.

I was kind of confused when I saw him in the lineup, to be honest.
Yeah nobody is touching that contract. Carolina would be doing them a huge favor. They could just re-sign Andersen for less term and money.

I'd want multiple 1sts or equivalents to take on Bob and solve Florida's goalie/Cap issues.

Yep, but we mostly didn't like what was up their sleeve either.

I get the mentality it back then. The moves were definitely controversial and to those that really liked Ned, perplexing. And it's only year 1 of those deals so in the long run, the view of it may change.

Bob at 5 million wouldnt be a negative asset. He would be a positive asset at that point but every GM will know Florida will be desperate for that 5 million in cap space so they will get him for close to free. but......

If Bob only wants to go to winner then we may get paid to take him on. Not many, if any, other competitive squads will be able to take him on.

Does Florida have anything to pay with? Aren't all their 1st round picks gone for the next 100 years?

initially I was like "f*** no" but the more I think about it, the more I'm ok with the idea of Bob at $5M and Koochie being our goalies for the foreseeable future. That's only if Freddie prices himself out of what we'll pay or wants too much term or sucks this year; all of which are possibilities. But if he plays extremely well again, stays healthy this time, and we can keep him on a reasonable deal I prefer that to considering Bob. Freddie for another 2-3 years after this on a reasonable deal with Koochie backing up would be a really good situation. Again, assuming he continues to play as well as he has here.

I didn't get to see Burns goal live. If they can keep this exact type of play running then the PP is going to be more dynamic than we have ever seen it. What a rocket off the one-timer. When teams start trying to take away that lane it will open the whole slot for tic-tac-toes.

We have so far and the ones who ran off died of dysentery after crossing the Mississippi River. We're now marching towards Lake Erie, and upset Buffalo fans farts will light it on fire like Cleveland did the Cuyahoga River which leads into Erie.
I was gonna go with a Middle Ages analogy, but this works too.

Could Brent Burns be a longer term option than we think here, playing with Slavin? Yes he's 37 but he's a physical specimen and we have seen D men play well into their 40s. I could see him sticking around past his current contract. Yes a bit of cart before horse having not yet even seen him play regular season action yet but I'm just so damn hyped about him being here.

I don't think of leaving Florida with $5m in dead cap space during their key contention window as "doing them a favor". Also, Bob isn't a negative value asset at $5M a year. He's still a good goaltender, just not $10M good.

It would entirely depend on Scott Morrow, I think. A productive Brent Burns, however, only helps Morrow's development as an NHL prospect.

I don't see how it's dependent on Morrow. Morrow could come in and truly be Makar 2.0 and we can still keep Burns around as long as he's playing well and wanting to stay here on a reasonable contract... that would probably mean Pesce is gone but he may be gone soon regardless...

Didn't our AHL squad just pot 5 goals on him a week ago?

He's 34 right now. If we were to assume his contract next summer, it would be during his age 35, 36, and 37 years...not great years for reaction quickness, lemmetellya.

And let's not pretend Bob is a goaltending god. He's not. He's had some great seasons, but he's also had about 7 average (or less) ones, including 2 of the past 3 (or 4 of 4, if you think 2.60/.913 is average). The Canes aren't looking for an older goaltender to bring them average play, and they certainly aren't going to lock themselves into such a deal for 3 years.

If Freddie has another strong year, he will likely get a lot more than 4.5 million for 2+ years. We only need Bob to be average if Kochetkov is our starting answer. When the cap goes up in 2 years, average goalies will likely be getting more than 5 million per anyways.

I liked it because of the show, but I don't think your response back then to what they had up their sleeve was very positive either (Hamilton for TDA and Andersen/Raanta).

EDIT: and if it's not clear, I'm just poking fun at you. We all have bad takes over the years, I know I've had more than my fair share.
