Buffalo has too many LHD, even if some play offhand.

I suspect Buffalo's brass are really frustrated that Mattias Samuelsson (RHD) has been one of their worst players this season. He'd been more effective in prior years.

Samuelsson LD, he is left-handed and he often gets injured. There are currently four left-handed players in our top 4, and it seems like no other team in the NHL has that.

Byram is struggling?

I didn't think he was in my couple viewings, but i read sabres fans saying that and i've only watched a few of their games.
My point was I don't see them as trading partners, the byram/miller thing was just spitballing something that would maybe make sense, but clearly my initial instincts were right, it doesn't.

Fox isn't realistic... nor is LaF.

Braden Schneider is the guy they need most. He's a big R shot defender that brings better balance to Buffalo's D core. Also younger than Byram. Same age as Power.

Trochek is a good player and the NYRs sitting on the 11th overall pick in the 2025 draft today. I didn't make some weak proposal. I made the Rangers put good assets on the table for Power.

And Power isn't having a banner season.

Anyone saying that Trochek is "too old" or "not what the Sabres need" is kind of missing the point. He's one of those borderline 1/2Cs who is signed to a reasonable deal and should age mostly well......it's not like we're squeezed for the cap room. Either he OR Tage would get weaker matchups than what they're seeing now, and it'd allow Cozens to bump to the wing or to 3C until he figures out this whole center thing.

Schneider is that defense-first RHD that most of the Sabrehood have been BEGGING for.

That said.....even including that lotto-protected 1st, this still seems like a light package for a former #1 overall pick who's very good offensively and developing defensively.

Yeah, I think those pieces would be useful, but I don’t think you even entertain trading Power unless you’re getting a similarly elite talent back.

I'm very concerned on Trocheck becoming KO 2.0 in the final 3-4 yrs (33+) of his contract. That is before factoring trading Power for him.

Buffalo should not be selling Powers at all, if they do they should be kicked out of the league for management incompetence. You have a young talented defenseman with size ,you should be trying to add to the roster with as little subtraction as possible. Start with a management team that has the ability to deal with what this team needs.

You are absolutely right, we have known all this for a long time, but unfortunately our owner is terrible, who hired an incompetent GM, who did not even have experience as a GM. This is just nepotism and connections. Our GM thinks that the kids should figure it out themselves, does not want to add good players to the team and vets. Dahlin has been in the league for 6 years and has never seen anyone like a mentor to him or even a normal defensive defenseman, the same is happening now with Power. This is all on the owner and his pet GM.

Yeah, it's not very nice when the GM sold our best players for futures almost five years ago and continues his supposed "rebuilding". Although the team missed the playoffs by one point in the 22-23 season, in the 23-24 season he said that target was to make the playoffs and did almost nothing to improve the roster for this task. Before the current season, it was obvious to everyone that we needed a top 4 RD to play with Power and a top 6 forward to help Cozens not fall (and he is falling), but the GM again did nothing for this. He only sarcastically complains in the press that city Buffalo sucks, there are no palm trees and taxes are high.

But otherwise, you said everything correctly, we lack good vets and just good mature players, our second and third lines now consist entirely of kids, and our top 4 defense consists of four lefties and the oldest of them is 24 years old. This is how a GM helps a team make the playoffs.

I'm not sure if 1st will be so valuable for us, although it is also currency. Laf, Schneider and Cuylle are interesting. I am concerned about Chytil's injuries, I don't think he can be the main part of the deal.

Byram, Power, Samuelsson, Dahlin are all L shot. Bryson is L shot.

Jokiharju is R shot.. but he's definitely not top 4 material.

He's been there for the last five years, and he's been terrible for the most part. He's not even in the top 6 anymore, and for the second time this season he's a healthy scratch for a lot of games. We have Clifton, who's a right-hander, but he's a third-pair guy and he makes a lot of mistakes, too. Terribly built defense, unfortunately.

I'm so tired of these draft picks and prospects, but I'd still try to get Laf or Cuylle out of there. It would probably be Power+ for Trocheck + Schneider + Laf/Cuylle. Then we'd have three important pieces for our roster.
