Curious If packaging a couple of our Vet's might be the easier way to go at the deadline ; Hall & Martinez for a 1st rder or a young future power forward ?

I’m hoping for two such trades. Martinez and a forward, Murphy and a forward. Use retention where needed.
If Chicago retains on each trade it could/should bring a 1st and 2nd (like McCabe/Lafferty). Maybe a 1st and 3 since retention is shorter. Also maybe move the picks back a year or 2.

Where did Lafferty end up.....wouldn't mind seeing that forecheck back on the Hawks for the right price.

I wonder if there is anyway to pry a player like Ryan Leonard from Caps.. something around Murphy 50% retained and Reichel along with 2026 1st with #1ova protection..be willing to offer higher end player like maybe Korchinski is we take out the 1st....thought would be to have a Team USA 2nd line with Nazar, Leonard, Moore

Nope. Only reason you trade a prospect like that is if we're talking a package for like a star player in their prime.
ya I figured as much. Just see Caps are making a run and this might be Ovi last chance to go for another cup. Murphy would solidify their D and some enticing prospects like Korchinski might sweeten the pot..figure its a non starter but fun to think about especially while watching the Juniors

Why on earth would Caps make that trade?

they wouldn't more than likely..just fun to think about what it would potentially take. Maybe Murphy 50% retained, Donato, Korchinski and Toronto 1st? It would have to be a hell of an overpayment for sure.

That is still awful for Caps and I like Korchinski

You want Leonard your talking Hawks 1st this year unprotected and a guy like Moore

The Caps have no incentive to trade a prospect who as far as I can tell has seen his stock continue to rise since draft

If Hawks are throwing Korchinski's name around trades trying to get a prospect for prospect swap, teams are going to be looking at him sideways because it's odd to trade a prospect that's been directly in your org the last year and a half unless you think he's a bust.

Unfortunately even then making a run is a negative, because it rules out any future picks/prospect as returns.

Their d-core is pretty good btw, no real need for Murphy. Not that he would be anywhere close to a Leonard type value.

Just a really nicely put together team this year. They brought in guys that fit their system (Strome, PLD), they have the depth.

I like looking at rosters that don't have holes and all the guys slot on where they should. This years Caps is one of those.

With Nucks situation appearing to be coming to point of EP trade

To :hawks
C Elias Pettersson (7 x $11.6M)

To :nucks
D Seth Jones (5 x $9.5M)
Hawks 2026 1st round pick (Top 3 protection)

Nucks get that long wanted top RD and someone who can move puck from blueline + A 1st that would still have chance to be high next year

Hawks get a major piece who is younger (26 yrs old vs Jones 30) that would fit in better with hopeful turnaround with youth coming in pipeline in coming years

Both players have NMC

Jones has NMC but given chance he may be open to move given how things turned out after coming to Chicago (Bowman gone months after acquiring him/extending him, new GM blowing it up for full rebuild, etc) and likely hood they are still a couple years away from being playoff contender

Pettersson whatever is going on in Vancouver I assume would be open to waiving his NMC at this point

With Jones going anywhere it starts with retained salary and he probably doesn´t agree to go play in Canada. Would love to have Pettersson but it would take much more to get him than that.

There's no world in which Vancouver does that.

But I would add to make it happen.

Come on. If you felt that there was any real chance of this happening, you'd put it on the main board.

I did

Before I posted it here

Frankly in situation the idea from Nuck fans they will get a huge haul for him with that contract extension and his recent struggles and questions about his work ethic (From Canucks organization at that) make his deal far different than what Nucks could have got if they moved him last year when Canes wanted him

I looked for the thread and didn't find it. Maybe it was buried in one of the general Pettersson threads? Yeah I can see fans having that reaction and maybe the 'haul' won't be there but they definitely would get better offers than that.

Do you guys think Dallas would trade Seguin for Jones?

Johnston, Benn, Duchene, Dadonov and Borque all need contracts next year. Meanwhile on D they could use someone stronger next to Heiskanen, Harley and Lindell. Only options are Dumba, Lundkvist, Bischel and Lyubushkin.

I think it makes more sense to upgrade on D when they have more ready forwards.

Seguin in our till April unfortunately, I don't think they would do him dirty. But maybe we can revisit this in the off-season.

Dumba + Marchement would be even better, but I dont think that is something Dallas would do.

How would trading Seguin for Jones help them sign players next year?

Thats not what I said, it shifts their cap allocation from forwards to defensemen.

Instead of having Seguin at 9.5 plus all those forwards at whatever new figures like 8, 4, 6, 2, they put that 9.5 on defense.

With Harley, heiskanen, Lindell all signed I don’t see a Dallas fit. Seguin expires once they need to go long term with Roberson, Johnson and Harley

Fair. But before we propose any further ideas to trade Jones, I think we should ask ourselves if that same trade for Nurse instead of Jones makes any sense.
