Ovechkin Milestone Thread - Passed some guy named Wayne, now NHL goalscoring leader (895 !!!)

It's also pretty crazy that Wayne missed half a season cause of the 94-95 lockout and and Ovi missed a full season and a half because of the 2004-05 complete lockout and the 2012-13 half a season lockout.

Alex probably gets to 1000 goals if that doesn't happen, something that would be hard to imagine seeing anyone ever do.
If OV decides to keep playing he should get to 1000 pretty easily. He's still a top tier sniper. I think he's 7th this year despite missing a bunch of games.

Do you think he got paid to write that ? It's written like a 5th graders school project

It was cheap hype even in 2014. But some guys nearly accept it

Ovechkin IS now a hat trick away from completing The Gr8 Chase

Alex Ovechkin
converted on a two-man advantage during the final minute of the second period to record his 892nd career goal and move within three of passing Wayne Gretzky (894) for the most in NHL history. Ovechkin’s 0.66 goals-per-game average this season and 0.60 rate in his career both put him on pace to complete The Gr8 Chase against the Blue Jackets on April 13 (6 p.m. ET on SNE, MNMT, FDSNOH).

* Ovechkin’s goal was captured by OviCast, an alternate presentation for all remaining TNT- and ESPN-produced regular-season games involving Washington. Wednesday’s TNT telecast also featured a moment between Ovechkin and analyst Brian Boucher, who Ovechkin scored “The Goal” against in front of then-Coyotes head coach Gretzky on Jan. 16, 2006.

* #NHLStats has been tracking The Gr8 Chase with more than a dozen Stats Packs since 2019-20 focused on Ovechkin, with the latest one – THE GR8 CHASE: A Hat Trick Away from the NHL Goals Record – released shortly after No. 892 on Wednesday. Look for one after each game in which Ovechkin scores a goal through the record-breaking No. 895.

* Did You Know? Today marks the 17-year anniversary of when Ovechkin beat Lightning goaltender Karri Ramo for his 65th and final goal of the 2007-08 season – his highest total in one campaign to date. That came less than two weeks after he became the 19th different player in NHL history to score at least 60 times in one season (a feat accomplished by four players since Ovechkin). That also helped him capture his first career Maurice “Rocket” Richard Trophy.

One away from yet another 40g season too, hot DAMN
Would tack on another season to the record he already holds (currently 13). Love that he holds this record all by himself. Gretzky is second with 12, only two other players have 10 (Lemiuex/Dionne).

It reminds me of this old video:

Jesus Christ why are the dumbest people on this planet always the most self-confident? Dude looks to have spent a good 50 years on this earth with a head full of unbuttered mashed potatoes, yet somehow maintains the ego and pompous swagger of an intellectual superman.
Usually an argument like his would annoy me, but it was so entertaining of a segment that I'm not even mad at him lol

So...

Who's the lucky team that the Caps play when Ovi breaks the record?

Would be crazy if he does it in the last game vs Crosby.

Last night was Ovechkin's 136th PP one timer from the left circle. That equates to 15% of his 892 goals.

Take all of them away and he's still fifth all-time in goals with a chance to reach 800 all-time. The narrative that he "just scores PP one timers" needs to be eliminated when we talk about his career years down the road.

It’s just a convenient way for his haters to cope.

I bought cheap tickets to the 2nd to last game of the season @ Islanders but Im thinking he may break it before then. Would be amazing to see live though.
How much is cheap? I would think the secondary market for these games would be thru the roof.
