Malkin player 2C because of Crosby.

If McDavid was traded here he would be 1C. McDavid would be the 1C on every team in the league.

This is true, because people will make that decision based on who’s the best individual player (McDavid) rather than the best team player (Barkov).

Yes at the end of the day Malkin was a top 3 player in the league for a good chunk of his career. He just started on the second line because Crosby was the number 1 player in the league. The same would have happen if McDavid joined the Panthers where he would be the number 1 centre. But Barkov talent wise is obviously still a number 1 centre. He would just start on the 2nd line. I hope this hypothetical situation actually comes true :)

So you want McDavid to be able to win a championship? I guess… because he won’t unless he gets help from better team players.

Face it, IMO, McDavid isn't a winner at this level. He's a prima donna who the team had to bring in his coach from the juniors to coddle him. I would rather have an elite 200 foot, point per game, player than him. Even last year at the all star game they had him design the timed skating course (not the lap around the rink) so he would have the advantage. All hail king Conner.

McDavid won the conn smythe. He's the best player in the game. Stating he isn't a winner because his team didn't win is nonsensical. A cup is a team game. You need the best team to win. And even then, there is considerable amount of puck luck that is required. McDavid had one of the best playoff runs of all time last year. Laughable to suggest he isn't a winner considering the amount of trophies he has won. This isn't tennis!

Conn Smythe is the best player just like the Norris is the best defenseman.

Wow! He's won trophies! But you said hockey is a "team game". No wonder he doenhave a cup.

I just cannot stand the whiny crybaby and will never be convinced he's a better all around player than Barkov.
 
It’s a moot point because unless he made it clear to Edmonton that he wants to explore his options then a team would need to trade for him. Much more likely he signs an 8yr where ever that may be, than to truly sign somewhere else in free agency for 7yrs

Having said that, the combos of Barkov-Reinhart deployed against the toughest competition or at least more defensive zone starts and then McDavid-Tkachuk. Good lord

Besides, the debate nowadays should not be about who the better player is, but who the better value is.

Exactly - the question isn’t “would you take McD over Barkov” but “would you take McD at $16M over Barky at $10M?”
 
I’m assuming our 1st at the deadline won’t be used for a rental forwards but more so a potentially longer term fit on D where we realistically extend them if they don’t come with term already. Although, I guess it would depend if samo is involved with any moves.

Two guys on offense who I don’t think will cost toooo much and who I think would fit like gloves here are Brandon Tanev and Luke kunin. Curious what the process tags are for each. We probably don’t need to add top the top9 though, I honestly just really want a new 4th line center. Obviously miss stenlund, he’s arguably the best 4C we ever had, but Nosek is probably the most nothing/meh play on the whole forward group. Grab a 4C and a good RD and I’ll be happy, just curious who they go after

We were spoiled with Stenlund. Man, was he amazing for his role or what?

Nosek is alright but if we could find a better permanent 4C and keep Nosek as a replacement guy with Gadjovich I’d do it.

I’d prioritize an upgrade at defense first but it would be neat to strengthen our PK and 4th line too
 
Should Florida inquire about Karlsson?

If Pittsburgh (or a third team) would retain, EK @6.7million could be a good value for two cup runs.

Defensively questionable, but Florida has system and forwards to minimize the harm. Still world class as PP quarterback and generating offense.
