Injury Report: Petry has hernia surgery, out 6-8 weeks

We may not see him again, the window has him back in late March, early April. Tough to re insert him into the lineup at that point.

Sorry Jeff, feel better.

Yeah Hernias are no fun at all.

We Probably need to add a defenseman as a result of this… whether it be a Griffin or cheap trade market pickup.

Holl has been awful. McClelland has been very reluctant to use him. Under 10 mins in a game recently.
I Don’t think Tood will want to roll with Holl for the next 2 months.

If Yzerman is serious about the playoffs, he needs to go after a stout defensive defenseman for the bottom pair. It doesn’t need to be a notable name, but it needs to not be Holl.

Jan Rutta? Not sure there are a lot of low key RD that we'd be in after. A lot of the decent ones are on teams solidly in the playoff hunt. Savard will be available if Montreal keeps falling out of the race, but a lot of teams might be after him.

Could be better off just bringing up Tuomisto and seeing if he can run with it.

edit: if we expanded it beyond rentals, I'd still look at the Blues. Faulk and Fowler can both play the right side, and their contracts might make them cheaper to pick up.

Better without him

No when it's Holl playing the minutes Petry would have.

Yeah, it’s a tough assignment. I immediately thought of Schenn or Gudas, but if they’re available, I suspect a legit playoff team would outbid us.

Damn. Im not a big Petry guy but that hurts the depth for a playoff push.

I wonder if this pushes Yzerman over the edge to add a D
Chiarot is pretty good lately, Edvinsson and AJo looking very solid. Yzerman just need to get big solid stay home defansman.

Not happy he is hurt, but happy we don't have to see him play.

What Chiarot are you watching? He makes a number of bad plays every game.

Everyone does, but he's better lately. You could also move him to third pair , but you need to trade for for first line defansman and that will be very expensive.

just watch when he is on the ice with any D'man not named Seider. He is carried ala Pavel and Abby.

I actually think Petry might do pretty well if inserted on the 3rd pairing.

This definitely could be the end of his career.
