Holl is perfectly fine in the right role. When he’s asked to play above that role, that’s where the issues and mistakes start happening.

Giordano - Holl third pairing would be ideal.

I agree with your overall premise, but the bolded statement is simply untrue

Just an add, if Holl plays within his limited skating capacity and takes no offensive risk he is fine in a 6th man role .. but he can even screw up that role when he thinks he is Bobby Orr

It's not the complete picture of course and just a snapshot of just how good he has been in these areas the last 2 weeks which is why everyone is praising him so mu.....errrr.

I’m not sure I’d play him over Schenn but I may be blinded by my refound love of physical defensemen.

Playing Holl and Schenn over Liljegren would be gross malpractice on Keefe’s part. Liljegren should be the one who’s the mainstay while Holl and Schenn are on the bubble.

I’d personally play Schenn above Holl. While I get Holl has the better numbers Schenn is just stronger than him and he’s a much better option to defend the front of our net, something Holl is incredibly weak at. However I wouldn’t complain if Holl played over Schenn, so long as Liljegren is in the lineup no matter what.

Matthews was struggling, so they tried him with Nylander for a bit. It helped for a while, but JT wasn't doing as well, so they switched back.

ROR moving JT to the wing helped that line.

I really don't think there's much to choose between Mitch and Willy - this year they are the drivers, and which line they are on isn't important. More important is keeping them on separate lines.

I don't think Knies will be playing on the second line because he hasn't played a single NHL game and not enough time before the playoffs to get him acclimatized. No guarantee he'll even sign. He also normally plays LW and too hard for a guy with no experience to switch to RW.

It's great to have everyone on their toes...Schenn adds an element we don't have too.

I'd wonder if we'd experiment with sitting a forward in the playoffs?, have a bottom 5 by committee and lean on that bloated top6 - All while having a platoon 7 on D and ability to cart out whoever is having a strong night.

Was it Jack Han who mentioned that at one point the Marlies were considering a 3D 2F system where the D were very active? Now would kind of be the best time to try it with Tavares+ROR out.

Run a 2-1-2 where the 3rd D is the high forward.
