Not just 2 on 1s but whiffs on net front covg. GWGs G3 G5.
His awareness is just poor. Deal with it.

Right, game three was Letang’s fault... holy f*** this place.

Maatta had an easy play to dump it down the boards, but instead threw a backhand, no look pass right to Backstrom.

Literally one of the dumbest plays in the entire series, but it’s Letang’s fault...

I never got the Josi Norris talk. Dude was invisible much of the time against us and was much the same this playoffs.

Winnipeg’s forward group is just better than their D corps.

Nashville’s gotta trade one of their D and bring in another high end forward. Ideally someone better than Johansen.

Josi for Kessel! :sarcasm:

Never said Maatta did not make errors.
Said Letang's awareness is poor.

Is what it is.

Plausible I guess. Particularly since Kessel playing through injuries worked out okay the year before.

Also plausible. I've long felt the org is a bit more willing to deal Phil than most of the fans are.

Trading Phil just seems disastrous. He’s better or on the same level as Panarin, I don’t want to make that mistake Chicago did, especially when Phil’s proven that he’s a gamer. Plus, 90 points for under 7 mil? You could argue without him the Pens don’t make the playoffs this year.

You specifically said gwg game 3 in reference to Letang.

Maatta throwing a blind backhand pass to the middle of the ice with a minute left in a tie game isn’t exactly great situational awareness.

That wasn’t the last bad play Maatta made in the series that ended up costing them a pivotal goal.

Letang had an up and down season, then ONE craptacular game in the playoffs, and was either fine to very good in the rest.

Subban and Josi looked like complete potato heads all series long agt the Jets, making bad reads, stupid ass plays, and getting muscled way too often.

Guess the Preds should trade them away to using the standards of groupthink round here...

Lot of truth to that. But I still think they're open to the idea - although they'd want a better return than Panarin got.

I'd also be wary of taking too much from Kessel's career season combining with the team being awful at ES though. The team should be able to manage the regular season just fine and Kessel's probably not scoring 90 points again. The real question is the play offs, where you've got to be real goddamn sure before moving an absolute post-season gamer...

Pens do that in a second.

Josi probably has the highest value of any Dman in the NHL.

Oh yeah - just a shame none of the other parties involved would

Argue that Letang's situational awareness is better than Maatta's.
Come on.

Argue that you didn’t just try to blame Letang for Maatta’s massive gaffe.

Let’s keep blaming Letang for everything. It’s what all the uh, kool kids are doing I guess.

Bill Watters was on NHL radio on Sirus and said it the best. Letang was his biggest disappointment. When your "best d-man" is responsible for at least 5-6 goals. Didn't play last year. He basically said everything I've been saying. He said Letang was the whole reason the Pens lost.

Also, for those excusing Malkin’s play because of injury do we forget the fact that Letang took an equally scary hit in the Philly series and had a huge gash in his hand which caused him to bleed on the ice?

2017 was a fluke. We got outplayed for the most part by CBJ and completely crushed by Washington. That we won was up to ridiculous goaltending and super timely scoring. Ottawa was a joke and we barely beat them and Nashville was too injured and inexperienced to compete. 2017 isn't repeatable and isn't a recipe for success.

Yep, PDO win last year.

Haven't you been paying attention? It's conventional wisdom there is no chance the Caps (or the Pens) could withstand the Tampa Bay juggernaut. :D__:D Caps dominated tonight. 24 SOG for TB? Whoa.

Wow, people are trying to discredit the back to back and 2017 to make Letang seem valuable after watching his 2018 performance. I'm done. I really hate some of our "fans" You ever think why would the NHL want the Pens in the 3rd round when 3/4ths of these idiots are going to watch/cheer for Vegas because of Flower? Why not get two for one and finally let the Caps win and please their already depleted fan base. Nobody is bigger than the Penguins logo besides Mario and Crosby. That's it.

Yea caps looked crazy good tonight, and it was without Backstrom. Maybe not as much of a failure on the pens as we thought. This version of the caps doesn't get frazzled. In 2016 and 2017 we were pretty much guaranteed at least a stretch of 10 min per game where Washington totally loses it and makes a ton of mistakes.

Caps are free from their Pens chains from here out, but a goal here or there could have changed things. They just didn't materialize, but not without some decent efforts to score them.

It's one game. We all should know better about judging after a lone game or even two.

Tampa is still a very good team. A healthy one at that. As long as the winners earn it out of the 4 left, they all are worthy.

Good points. I seem to remember the Lightning losing G1 against the Bruins, two weeks ago. At home. This is a different Caps team, tho, I think this series is a toss-up.

Realistically, I would move Maatta to a team that has a RHD worth moving for. So that leaves me with moving Maatta for a RHD prospect, a highly touted one, then use the cap space to sign Mike Green to a 2yr contract a 3.5m/yr to add another PMD to the Pens 6. I wouldn't mind getting Cole back too, I know some people are ok never seeing him back again, but I'd love to get the guy back. I think we need that warrior type player back to help.

Dumoulin, Letang
Cole, Schultz
Oleksiak, Green.

the best thing about phil, is Toronto is paying a nice chunk of his salary. that's coming to an end. will he want paid or does he realize the playing for the pen's is the best thing to happen for him and takes a home team discount?

Yeah, I'm in no way defending Letang, but Maatta's gaff was just as costly as any of Letang's. Both stunk vs Washington.
