The bigger point is this isn't a quick retool. Mika died, Kreider quit/died, Fox lost a step he couldn't lose, and Igor is goalie-ing. Those are the 4 guys along with Panarin who basically made last year happen game to game.McKenna is a surefire #1. You can't bank on getting that. He's also not a center!
We have no idea what Hagens or anybody else is. I agree that Hagens isn't some McDavid-level guarantee but 6th and 7th rounders have become Hall of Famers.
I'd be fine with any of Hagens, Schaefer, or Martone, but I'm leaning towards not the wing, because it isn't a need and nobody in this draft is a guarantee.
Fox should rebound at some point, Igor will fluctuate, but the first two are gone and not coming back. That's your all situations 1C and 1LW. Those are not getting replaced quickly no matter what you do. This is a 3-5 year project, and the 3 year version requires a kid or two to *really* break out, not Lafrenieres "I've not hit 60 points in year 5 of my career yet but we will call it a breakout."
