To be honest, I don't see a lot different from last season. Jets never play 60 minutes. Almost no physical play. The coach just keeps doing the same thing by overplaying 55 and 26.
Exactly ... if you keep doing the same thing over and over you are going to get the same results over and over.:help:

Hard to say where we are right now. I think the North Division is by far the worst in the NHL, so we could squeek in, who knows. And it's hard to condemn the team after a 1-1 start with 4 good periods and 2 terrible ones.

Falling back on the track record of this club, its current players, and management, tho, it's hard to see this team putting things together as assembled. I'm honestly a little shocked at how quickly our team was hollowed out. That 2nd period was hot, smelly garbage.

Quick thoughts...

27-55-26 Line didn't stay together for very long. They were awful through most of the first period and a bit. Ehlers was especially bad. His worst game in the past couple of seasons, from my recollection. Scheifele was bad defensively, but a driver of offense as the game wore on. Better game by Wheeler than game 1. At least he was controlling board play and was adequate at zone exits. Copp added a bit to this line, but they really didn't have much at 5v5.

81-25-85 Not a great game from Connor, though he showed some zip later in the game. Stastny was constantly covering up for them in his own zone, but needs doped and play drivers to be effective in the offensive zone. Perreault has lost a step or two. Not really that effective tonight.

9-17-22 Decent game, but nothing special. The Jets lost 4-5 straight faceoffs on the PP before Tavares' goal, and Lowry lost 2-3 of them. Normally face offs don't get me worked up, but tonight the Jets lost almost every one on special teams and it led to way too much D zone time on the PK, and too little O zone time on the PP.

12-11-23 It's just a placeholder line, and I guess they did that. I wish they could be a bit more bold and think about how to add more to their 4th line.

44-8 I'm officially worried about Morrissey. I remember when he would neutralize the best forwards. Now he's just a guy on D. We really need to see him with a better partner. Hard to see how Niku stays in the lineup for much longer. He was the second best Moose D tonight, and just doesn't seem to keep focused.

24-4 So, Forbort is looking like a very good pick-up. He's been the best D over the first couple of games. Solid defensively and very reliable with the puck. This has been a good pair. Pionk is playing a good game alongside Forbort's steadiness.

64-88 Nice debut for Stanley. Didn't get caught out of position much, mostly clean with the puck. Beaulieu had another one of those shifts where he inexplicably gives the puck away and causes a minute of chaos. He shares bottom spot among Jets' D tonight with Niku. Time to see what Samberg and Heinola can do.

Hellebuyck was really solid. Deserved a win for that performance.

9-17-22 is like a fantastic 4th line or a decent 3rd one, but we are falling apart above them.

Wheelers days on the 2 top lines are fading away unfortunately we don't have anyone to replace him atm, Perfetti might be someday but after him nobody, tonight Laine is not playing and is replaced by Perreault and later Copp 2 guys who should be nowhere near the top 2 lines.

Wheeler will be on the first line all year even if he plays like this till the end.

Then laine will he traded and he will stay there for another year maybe longer

Ehlers-Scheifele-Laine
Harkins-Statsny-Connor
Vesalainen-Copp-Wheeler
Appleton-Lowry-whoever idk

More balance, more scoring and less dead weight.

Unfortunately, the most likely scenario is also the worst case scenario. Make the playoffs as the four seed in perhaps the worst division in recent memory, lose in the first round but can’t fire the coach after a playoff season, right? Continue status quo and have another wasted season in 2022 when we’re back in one of the best divisions in hockey.

Last year's Jets play this year's Leafs.

Coulda been worse, I guess -- but that seems like a less than compelling sentiment for a pro sports team.

Here's hoping Laine gets back fast and that we start pouring on the speed -- this team only starts to make sense with an uptempo game, IMO, and running 55/26 into the ground while the 3rd and 4th lines chip, chase and freeze the puck just kills that. From 5v5 to PP that was pretty painful.

Roll on game 3, but I'm not counting on the Sens to snooze through it -- they're working hard so far.

well Sawyer seems to think Copp is a skill guy!:sarcasm:

don’t know how much longer I can listen to Sawyer and his verbal diarrhea, forgot how bad he is, guy shouldn’t be anywhere near a mic.

great post game analysis by Whilee!

Hate to say it but Buff leaving was the last straw for this team. The rest of the D just are noway near what you need to be succeed in the NHL and without Buff it doesn't seem like the rest of team can bring the emotion to games. It is not lost on me that the team's downfall around Jan of 2019 started right around the time when Buff started to miss time due to injuries.

I also hated how Beyak kept referring to "here" as to mean MTS Center when the game was being played in Toronto. Just needlessly confusing. No one cares that they are broadcasting from Winnipeg even during away games. Stop bringing that kind of ambiguity into the call.

I would really like to see what K Ves could do, I know what Lewis, Thompson and Perreault can do and I'm not interested in what they bring to this team, don't need all three playing night after night

The team itself is much better. But our expectations are higher and the coach is abysmal.

how much better? top line with Little at C was better, 3rd and 4th lines were better, D was better!

This years Jets have an edge in goal and the second line is better!

haven't seen our #1 line dominate much of anyone since about 2018!

Slow slow slow
In the GDT I made a point to ask what a "good game" from Stanley would look like.

Do you have specific examples of where he looked slow (none jumped out at me)?

Here's a hot take: Stanley looked no worse in his first NHL game than Heinola did. Dont take that as a projection or a comparison to their upside - heinola is obviously in a different tier.

This is a kid in his first NHL game, and he hadn't played a game at in in 10 months. I thought he exceeded my (very low) expectations

Scheif played over 26 minutes. Wheeler played over 23 minutes. Maurice never learns.
hes a stubborn moron and will be the reason this team never won a cup in 2017 because he refused to adjust to vegas. the sooner he is gone the better our vets are complacent and need to be demoted time from time to show them their just as accountable. but he would never do that to wheeler. also take out perrault and put in vesalainen least he has size and a good shot and will help pp2

What good is pp2 when PP1 does nothing all 2 minutes. The devotion to scheif and Wheeler is insane tho.

First line was not better, and it would be no contest with Wheeler off of it. Bare minimum, high end forward talent is much, much better. Andrew Ladd lead this team in goals for God’s sakes.

The GST line was the worst fourth line we’ve ever had and that’s saying a lot. But we had more patience for horrible play back then because we were desperate for hockey.

Our depth scoring might have been better but that’s only because guys like Antropov and the young version of Burmistrov could actually drive some offence from the third line. If we played our talent evenly, the current version of depth scoring is probably better now but it’s still a weakness.

D might have been better because we didn’t know how good we had it with Buff and Enstrom and we have no one close to as good as either of them right now but the second and third pairs were so bad it’s still probably a wash.

Kane was a pretty good threat in year one! 30 goals, Ladd was the #2 goal scorer!

Buff and Enstrom were both better D than anyone we have now, Hainsey and Bogo were solid as was Oduya!

Ladd and Wheeler were 25 and Little was 23, the line was solid!

Sami Niku is NOT looking good out there. I blame Niku for not taking his game to the next level. He has had 2 years since his breakout season in the AHL to take his game to the next level and hasn't.
The time to play him was right after that amazing AHL season. He earned it at that point and it’s not like we were talent rich at D. At this point he’s probably done as an NHL D but the indictment should be that we had a dominant AHL D and we jerked him around for two years and basically wrecked his development.
