We won, which I'm happy about. But if we continue to play like that. we will be fighting it out for 7th in the division. Can you imagine if we had Pavelec in net for this gong show?

Senators post-game thread complaining about coaching:
1) “wrong” personnel choices in OT
2) playing veterans over younger players

Hmmm... sounds familiar.
Most of the NHL coaches are in fact quite similar. I have been quite fed up with the coaching of most NHL teams. Very conservative in general. Vets and rigid systems rule the league, which unfortunately drags down the hockey a bit generally. NHL would have the potential to be much more creative and more fun to watch if these dinosaur coaches would get extinct somehow.

Hey guys! I’m selfishly asking for fantasy purposes: I see Morrisey is getting far more PP time than Pionk. Do you think this will stick or would you guess Pionk takes the reigns again?

My problem with the 'it's only 3 games, Jets are just sloppy' is that we're playing the same we we played last year and the same way we played the year before. Get outplayed, depend on a goalie and top end talent up front to bail us out. That and the PK, I get irrationally angry about the PK. It's so bad it is unbelievable.

I really hope we get to see Beaulieu and Niku out (I had hopes for Niku and still think there is talent, but it's not working). Add Demelo in, rotate through Samberg/Heinola/Stanley and hope one of those guys can take a step forward in development. Pionk-Forbort has been serviceable as a #2 pairing, I'd leave them for now.

I just don't want to watch us play this way all season, it's tiring to get outplayed. I miss winning games in convincing fashion lol.

Anybody else getting the sense that Morrissey worked on his shot a lot? Seems like he's shooting a lot more and a lot harder to start the season. Hopefully the end of that game gets his confidence up, that was a great pass to Copp. I feel like he's starting and finishing the games as two different players right now. Hell we're kind of starting and finishing as two different teams right now.

Watching the replay we are very fortunate that Ottawa didn't challenge the Lowry goal because it definitely wouldn't have counted.

I want to go radical - and have 4 pairs, and plug in the remaining based on performance:

Scheifele Connor
Stasny Laine
Wheeler Harkins
Lowry Lewis

Now, depending on health, you have Ehlers, Appleton, Copp, Vesalainen (in my dream lineup) that can plug in on any of these lines. Now you have 3 lines that can score, 4 strong faceoff men, and one shut down line that can actually play some minutes.

This would force Maurice to spread the ice time out a bit more. Of course, it will never happen but would be interesting.

I'm waiting to see how Connor-Scheif-Wheeler, Ehlers-Stastny-Laine, Copp-Lowry-Appleton play out, because with 3 solid d pairs I think those are 3 lines that can win line matchups.
4th line Harkins hasn't been hot to start, however I think Vesalainen-Gustafsson-Lewis could be a solid 4th line at some point during the season.

I know many coaches now prefer to use their players in pairs, I'm not sure Maurice is one of those though.

I always support radicalism though, in an era of repression.

I hope Morrissey sticks not I'm not confident he will. Maurice likes his PP defenseman to be the same handedness as the trigger man, which is now Connor. When Laine comes back if it doesn't click quickly I'd bet Pionk moves back to PP1.

I think we finished the end of last year 7-1-1 before play stopped and we were out playing almost everyone during that time

Well, I wasn't too happy with the Jets' play throughout most of the game, but the positive is that they didn't give up. I would love to see them start a game and play with that intensity for closer to 60 minutes.

Connor is looking like he will be a line driver this year. He looked head and shoulders above every other Jet last night imo. When moved up with 55/26 again, he did all of the heavy lifting, getting pucks, making plays etc. Small sample size, but if him and Laine both make that leap this season, we will be very good very soon. (if we can ever stay healthy :) )

A bright spot was that Stanley didn't look too bad again. Who knows what we get when he gets more comfortable?

Shout out to Maurice and coaching for the updated PP, it looks way better this way and hopefully adds another dimension that we can switch back and forth with. Also the 3 on 3 look for first shift! Yay!

There was lots to bitch about last night, but I wanted to focus on the positive after I slept on it :)

We finished 8-3-1, definitely a good stretch. I suppose optimist side would look at that and hope we build off that.

The larger picture of the season was for the most part an utter disappointment.

Just hope we see some changes, you are right that we were playing better to finish last season. If we changed the PK structure and gave the young guys some run I would honestly not even mind losing/being out played as much. It's just hard to watch your team be thoroughly out played and have guys like Samberg/Heinola sitting out so that Beaulieu can play.

Also the PK, man we need to do something. It's so hard to watch.

Sens fan here, Kyle Connor was the best player on the ice last night, what a great player.
Thanks, yes he's a beauty as Don would say. You guys have some good young talent too and i don't think it'll be long before you are kicking the crap out of the Leafs every time you play them.

Interesting how Montreal, Ottawa, Winnipeg and Calgary are on the heavy side and have decided to go with harder hockey - Oilers and Leafs are speed and skill. Leafs are going to get worn down I think, love the stye comparisons.

Didn't know Connor was such a puck handler, always saw him as a shooter. Natural goal scorer, reminds me of Mike Gartner - 700 goals is doable for him the way he skates, he can play until he is 40 with that shot and those wheels

has been the best Fwd through 3 games imo.

he looks to be in mid-season form. Has hit what 3 posts too? 7M is such a great deal for him. Wish we could get a line with both Ehlers and Connor on it, just to see how it'd look. 2 of our strongest chance-generators and scorers at 5v5.

I think it also helps him that the pp has been working primarily on the opposite side which ques up his one timer. The kid could always shoot the puck (registered 96 mph on a skills comp a few years ago) it is just now being more properly utilized.

Also could be that his shoulder is fully healed as well.

Good point on the expansion draft requirements. We definitely need a dmen to expose. My guess is Miku is also getting games so that he can be exposed as well.
Not sure I can take 24 more games of Niku to get him to that point. I really wanted Niku to succeed, really. But he's not doing that.

On the Stanley side, happy to see him play well-ish again. I hope the best for him and he's already exceeded my expectations (which were very low) but he's not there yet IMO. Still see him getting turned around by quicker guys very easily. Improvement will still come though. Nice to have that big bod if we can. Can he make it to a Chiarot level?

I owned both in fantasy leagues last year but I opted to go with Pionk this year. He just seems to put up more points and definitely did last year. My league is pretty shallow though, so nobody has taken Morrissey as yet (not drafted, not picked up yet) though I'm watching him for fantasy purposes as well as general Jets hockey. I think their time is going to be close to even on PP.

Replaying Stanley Tkatchuking that little toerag on the floor it gets better and better. He doesn't even put any effort in, flicks him away like a wasp then gets ready to fight someone a bit more interesting. Great stuff.
Do you or anyone else have a clip they can post? I'd like to rewatch it also hah

Mo uses Scheif-Wheeler and Copp-Lowry almost exclusively... he's a pair coach

This is the advantage of having talent on your team... you win games you don't deserve to win.

Having said that, this play is certainly not sustainable. Time to get the rust out.

A challenge is not needed to check if a goal was scored by high stick, so I would assume it was checked and was valid. I don't have a great replay to check for myself.

You are correct, we were playing much better hockey by that time. It just took 55-60 games to get to that point. They don't have the luxury of time this season and that is what is causing me some consternation.
