So now it's Sennecke? I was all excited about Buium! Buium just felt right for some reason. But I can get behind Sennecke, although I'd like even more for the Ducks to trade down and grab him a few picks later if they can.
Yeah if that is who they are set on would rather it be done this way than at 3

and if they trade down to 5 and Columbus picks Sennecke, they get to pick Buium win/win.
I think Columbus is the main threat to pick Sennecke if Anaheim doesnt, even if they are leaning Lindstrom he's another big forward.

Tom, you're turning into dirk.
Not really. Just not a fan of taking a 6' D that high unless he skates and shoots like Makar...and Buium doesn't.

Remember, I'm the same guy who has criticized the Gaucher and Myatovic picks and they certainly are Dirk kind of guys.

It's kinda wild walking by all these super well dressed people. Clearly families of the draftees.
If you see Madden tell him to trade down if its Sennecke, worst case scenario they get to pick another really good player at 5 such as Buium/Silayev etc.

You've been pounding your fist about Verbeek not drafting anybody below 6.2. When it sounds like he might, you decide that's when you'll have no confidence in our scouts. So, it's really about how you think they should draft (nobody under 6.2) and not really a trust that they can draft the right guy regardless of size.

This may have been mentioned already, but the Panthers just won the Cup and their two biggest D men were large pylons during the postseason (Ekblad and Mikkola). The rest of their D corps are all either small or slender, based on the height/weight requirement some people seem to have. Forsling, Montour, and Kulikov are all average size or smaller, while Ekman-Larsson is somewhat tall but thin. And as a whole, that's not a particularly physical defense. They're not all soft, but there are no mean bruisers there.
What about the huge physical Las Vegas team that won the previous season?

Wrong. My point is that Verbeek shouldn't break that 6'2" streak on an undersized D in a position the team is already deep in. I'd be delighted if they drafted Demidov and he is under 6'2".

But it kind of is a big deal. You can't just hit a button and your excess LD becomes a RD or RW.

In reality, those top line players are rarely available. Drysdale for Gauthier trades rarely happen and even in that case it took him forcing PHI to trade him.

For example, let's say you have a 1LD, and the team needs a 1RD. You draft the another 1LD with the intention of trading one of the excess LD for 1RD. What if that player isn't available? Now you are trading the LD for a 2RD + a pick to make up the value. That's cool, but the team didn't need a 2RD, they needed a 1RD. You could've just drafted the 1RD.

Obviously if the talent difference is huge, you don't take a guy based on need. But if it's a toss up who is going to be better, take the guy you need. If you're building a team through the draft, at some point you have to consider team needs.
If you have a 1LD, you are perfectly fine putting a 2D on the other side, and vice versa. Even when the Ducks had 2 legit 1D, they typically didn’t play together.
