People keep saying this for no apparent reason.

Sandin was blocked from regular playing time for the entirety his current contract. So he was not going to get better sitting in the pressbox eating hot dogs for 1.5 seasons, nor was he going to accumulate more value.

It's really that simple.

The Sandin side of the equation I'm fine with. It's the return I'm not fine with.

A 1st and Gustafsson is fine in isolation but when you factor in we already added McCabe and Schenn it makes zero sense as a trade.

We currently have 10, arguably 11, guys we can play on defense. Rielly, Brodie, Holl, Gio, Gustafsson, Liljegren, Timmins, McCabe, Schenn, Benn and Mete would be the debate 11th guy. We only need 8 or 9 at the very most.
