Post-Game Talk: Poor discipline and poor reffing is a bad combination

What’s the point of trying to build a competitive team if this is how games are going to be called anyways?

Impossible to win when the league is working against you. The NHL has turned into an America first league, they don't want any Canadian teams doing well, all they care about is the American dollar, and trying desperately to get Americans to watch even though all they care about in the states is Football and Basketball. A Canadian team hasn't won a cup in 20 years and I would bet my savings they wont win won for another 20 either.
It's not 20 years, it's 30.

And coincidentally Bettman became commissioner partway through that season. No Canadian team has won the Cup since he's ran the show through his first complete season to now.

Here's hoping they figure out something, but will it matter? Who knows. I guess most of you will see Sunday. I'm not sure where I'm at.

The only way to avoid
We are like 2-11 in playoff overtime in the McDavid era. Team really struggles to bear down in crunch time.

It showed again in this game when the team came out into a next goal wins situation and looked like crap, immediately took a penalty, then got scored on.

It's the hockey Gods plan. Now we will receive our "even up calls" and beat Montreal's OT season game winners record.

Yup, the same here, though there are a couple other teams that are secondary for me. When they suck, it's nothing doing.

I'll say that I'm actually compelled to watch tennis, soccer (tournaments), hell even baseball for players or teams I don't necessarily care much for. The NHL is literally the last reason I watch any team play. It's an absolute travesty of a league.
I can watch football on a Sunday all day and enjoy the hell out of it. And World Cup. Yes please.

I watched the least oilers games this year I ever have too. Last two years it’s been regression. Just unfortunate the league isn’t a good one. It’s like 9th most popular in the states after probably something like monster truck rallies.

A ref in the sky would do wonders for this game. I think it would help with the game being so fast. It’s hard to call. So add more eyes and allow refs to review things with the guy above

Its cute you guys think a canadian team had any chance agaisnt LA

Goaltending has really been the biggest difference.

Korpisalo has been excellent.
Occams Razor right here. It just is the case.

I'll add as well a comment that though people are fuming about the high stick in OT, for some reason people are concluding that if that doesn't occur that the Oiler get the result. Its not a given with the goaltending disparity that the Oilers pull out the OT result. They rarely do in the playoffs. The Oilers are 2-10 in the McDrai era now in playoffs OT. I don't like that percentage and the Oilers haven't beaten Kings in OT in 3 games across 2 seasons and even without Drew Doughty last season.

It just seems as if people are not taking into account that for the Oilers theres no way they should want one goal decides it OT format. With the juxtaposition of Korpi vs Skinner thats a real losing card.

Oilers need to be deciding results in regulation time and I suspect they throw everything at it to do that in game 4.

Tough loss, but
This is the path we envisioned before the playoffs started. For some reason, I'm getting '08 Penguins vibes from this team. That was Crosby's first championship, and they were down 2-0 twice in two different series, the 2nd round and in the final.
Crosby said going down 2-0 vs Washington, and eventually a game 7 was the catalyst and the series that propelled them all the way to 16 wins.

We predicted this series to be the hardest series on the possible path to the SCF, because their style of play is what teams need to do to tame the Oilers; and they're also out for blood, revenge from last year

Despite widely outplaying the Kings, (and the refs), we find ourselves behind.
But, this is where we see this team transforms. Each game was a relatively low scoring affair, with the score not telling the tale of the actual gameplay. Korpisalo has been the MVP of the series so far.
That changes in game 4.

Don't let this ruin your weekend comrades, the pivot happens on Sunday

It hasn’t been worth watching for years. I’m admittedly often impressed when I see others in here watching games on off days.

I haven’t watched another team play a game in about 10 years. Bad league. I care about the oilers. Not about hockey.
Same... I like watching high end talent like McDrai and I'm an Oilers fan... but NHL hockey in general is full of agendas and game management... not enjoyable when you can't actually let the skill of the players on the ice determine the outcome.

All the complaining will just be seen as Oiler homer fans doing what they do... but even 3rd party "unbiased" fans and media can obviously see what's going on.

drai takes his second Unnecessary penalty of the post season.

Like it or not we’re up against the refs and we can’t afford to be taking penalties like those.

Bullshit call but still need to be smarter
This is a pretty good take honestly. The penalties against us have been pretty bad, but the players need to recognize this and not give them any more excuses to call something.

The team was awful in OT. The first shift from McDavid was fine but after that they were a gong show. It starts with Draisaitl inexplicably getting himself tossed out of the face off circle like he was daring the linesman to do it. Same look on his face as he had in game 2 when he took that slashing penalty. Nuge lost 3 man to man battles leading up to his penalty. Looks like the clock has turned to midnight for him as he’s back to being the same useless player that frustrated us for years.

I thought the third period tonight was the only period in the entire series where the game was officiated evenly. I had hoped that was the sign that sanity was returning and the Oilers could focus on playing hockey. Their awful performance in the OT makes me worry they’ve given up knowing nothing they do is going to matter.

Because he said something and tapped Doughy? Something that happens 25 times a game?

Naw the referee deserves to be sent to the moon with no spacesuit on.
