The attendance ruined the tournament for me this year, i hope to god they don't hold another tournament in Buffalo ever again.

PATHETIC.

I had to lol at his comment that this tournament is top 10 for attendance.

In what world could he possibly think that's true?

Well considering he had the luck of having a game a novelty game against the 2 main attractions in this tournament in an building that had an attendance of 42,000 people i am guessing he is not wrong. Only problem is that 1 game accounted for 90% of the attendance for the week.

Canada-Sweden on a friday night with an empty arena will not get major ratings. Canada-USA Canada-Russia is much more easy to sell.

One thing is for sure the games at the Sabres Arena probably had on average 1500 during the tournament. This is the worst since Boston 1996.

Anything canada is going to get the ratings. They have gotten good ratings for every single canadian game this tournament from what i remember hearing some where.

Well, they're claiming they had 4,000+ for Belarus and Denmark earlier today.

DEN-vs-BLR

So they're counting paid attendance, which probably means ticket packages, not butts in seats.

This is on the IIHF/runners of tourney not on Buffalo/Fans...

I went back in 2011, got a package for every game and it was around $600 (CAD) or so... this year same package was about $1400 (CAD after taxes/fees)

Factor in 2/3 last years it was in Toronto to make the market over saturated.

This is not a reflection of the hockey fans in Buffalo 1 bit, this tourney is an embarrassment due to the greed of the runners of this tourney.

Duty Free Peace Bridge were selling tickets $50 CAD flat no fees to all Canadian games (limited supply) and I saw the boxing day game... $50 flat was reasonable, but the original $90+ they were asking for originally?.... No thanks.

The people I split seasons with could afford it in 2011. None of them could afford it this year, so none of them went.

Myself and many others have been saying it for years now. Ticket prices have gotten way too high for what most fans can afford comfortably on an entertainment purchase. There will always be reasons and PR speeches given, but at the end of the day it all comes down to cost.

Excuses

Fischer bringing up his claim of "top 10" attendance demonstrates my fear that the WJC will look at overall attendance and use it to claim that the tournament was a success when while the outdoor game can be considered a "success", the tournament itself is very much a failure.

Rather than grow the World Juniors and choose new sites like Chicago, Tampa or St. Louis the organizers became greedy by the idea of the outdoor game. Going back to Buffalo was a mistake and the attendance outside the outdoor game proves it.
