Yeah, I mean they only have the highest TV ratings for NHL games in any US market and were #3 for ratings of the Stanley Cup Final last year (obviously behind PIT and NSH) despite the team being terrible, but yeah they're not a top-3 market just because high prices, terrible weather, the Bills making the playoffs and general overkill of a JUNIOR hockey tournament has led to low attendance.

Guessing you've never even been to Buffalo, but whatever helps you sleep at night, bud!

Lived in upstate New York for six years but whatever helps you sleep at night

imo, they need to take the tournament back to cities that have no high level professional sport teams. Then it will be the most exciting thing happening in/around town and thats when the hype is big.

I would happily cancel some three drinking evenings to see such game. :) Perhaps this is because we don't have international hockey events so often around here. When I was at the 2015 men's WCH in Prague, it was massive, the atmosphere surrounding it, frenetic crowds not only inside and around the arena, but everywhere on the streets nearby. Really amazing event, but this was the only one for quite a long time.
Czech Republic is apparently the 2020 WJC host.

The tournament is fine in big cities in Canada. Vancouver/Victoria is already 60% sold for next year but in the US I agree with you, no more big cities like Buffalo, keep it to smaller places in hockey regions like Minnesota.

Semifinal between the US and Sweden and the attendance seems to be abysmal once again. Can we even expect the final to be sold-out?

This year's edition is a fiasco.

The final is on Sunday. I would bet if the weather is relatively okay and it’s usa Canada it will sell out

Also BC hasn’t had the tournament in forever

That was interesting. I don't blame Ken for that at all. Fischer was clearly the one in the wrong. Fasel handled that like a boss and gave a straight up answer.

Lol Fischer is the director of communication for USA hockey. He seems to be, not good at his job.

It might just be that Americans for the most part, don't understand or relate to 'junior' hockey as a concept. They get high school sports and college sports because most of their other sports are organized that way, so they will get excited over university competitions or high school competitions. Junior or U20 sports are not a big deal and harder to market to the casual fan. Obviously there are junior teams down there in the CHL and USHL, so some people do get it, but it's a pretty small market. Canadians are not travelling this year and weather is crappy, so you have this situation.
