Who has out performed or lived up to their contract?

How many threads do we need for the same 5 people to complain about the Leafs? Pick one and stick to it please.
Dumb thread anyway. Polls should be designed so people can express their view not be told how to vote.

I could score 83 points playing in the Oilers top 6
Glenn Sather was once asked why he took B.J. McDonald off of Gretzky's line, and then traded him a few months later when he had scored almost 50 goals the year before. His answer: "My dog could score 50 on Gretzky's wing." As McDavid is to Gretz, Zack Hyman is to B.J McDonald...and Glen Sather's dog.

EDIT: For the amazing amount of whining and moaning in this thread. The "max" voting has been increased to 5.

Is there still more whining?

Obviously Nylander and Reilly are worth their deals, but....

How many Rockets and Hart trophies needed to say Matthews outperformed?

The context is given their cap hit post ELCs (and new contracts for Rielly/Matthews now known); how do they stack up against their peers. How much more are they really worth?

Think of: McJesus, Drai, Pasta, Rantanen, MacKinnon, Hughes, Point, Kucherov, etc...

Below are some just some hand picked examples:

If the claim is that the core4 is worth what they are or more then where are the results? 7 years in total now its a long enough sample size IMO.

Is Matthews really worth 11.6/13.25? Is Marner really worth 11 (or an increase for his next deal?), Is Nylander really worth 10+ AAV on his next deal?; how does JT stack up with his 11 AAV? etc...

Given there is a cap, and franchise has to put the best roster possible together (i.e. 23 man roster) given the cap; how do the Leafs stack especially the ones that are taking lion's share of the cap

Nylander over.
Rielly is spot on
Matthews is spot on or maybe a little rich
Marner under
JT under

40 goal scorer on the second line at 6.9m please check yourself on that one lol.
The whole contract, not just one season. Matty was paid to be MVP and Rocket caliber every year and he has delivered on that twice so no. Rielly has had a bad regular season and a good playoff on this deal so not yet. Willie's 40g season is a nice bookend for the 27 point year one and he had 17g in year three so only if you have a really short memory. No value deals for this crew, especially not when you compare with the monster years guys like Tkachuk and Pasta finished their deals with.

There is no way Nylander is worth more than Pasta and some others.
Signed a year later for only 300K more, which some posters here say is normal inflation.

Yes, Nylander isn't worth more than Pastrnak, but that's not the topic. Pastrnak has outperformed his contract by a lot, but that doesn't mean Nylander hasn't outperformed his.

If we are going by his previous 5m average than it is not even close, the "Should be" Captain Morgan CRUSHED it. He was/is a top pairing guy who steps it up in the playoffs and has excellent leadership qualities. If that isn't enough he is a homegrown talent (meaning we drafted him) AND he took a discount on his followup contract to boot.

Yep, never controversy surrounding this player for his actions, his play OR his contract status.

Not making this guy captain is a move I'll never understand. He has his warts, but people need to understand all players do. The guy bleeds blue and shows it every year. For me, a man of 35yrs, that puts him up there with McCabe and Kaberle at the very least. And he still has a while to go.

That beings said....
2nd goes to Nylander.
3rd Matthews.
4th Tavares (Who ppl forget left money on the table to come here.
5th Marner...Who is an incredible player but I'll be damned if he didn't take every penny possible.

There are others making 9 to 9.5 I would trade him for in a flash. Nylander a contract was front loaded.

He didn’t sign for more than Pastrnak. AAVs are not how you compare contracts unless they are signed against the same cap. In 99% of the comparisons people make cap hit percentage at time of signing is the far more meaningful number

Given the contracts Dubas gave out; in your opinion; Leafs Nation who has out performed their contract or at least lived up to their contract in comparison to their colleagues league wide?

1) Tavares (11 AAV)
2) Marner (11 AAV)
3) Nylander (7 AAV)
4) Rielly (5 AAV and now 7.5 AAV)
5) Matthews (11.6 AAV and moving forward 13.25 AAV)
6) None of the above

Lets see whats the general consensus. You can at Max select only 2 (or 1 if you don't think 2). You are not allowed to pick a 3rd; because if 3 out of 5 had out performed their contracts we would have seen at least a conference finals by now if not cup finals or winning the cup.

EDIT: The Max selection has been increased to 5

Should've left the voting at 2.

Like you said, some will say most or all of them outperformed their contracts which is absolutely not true.

It's the same as the dubas fan boys telling us Kyle's the best gm or even one of the best in the league despite zero results.

The problem with fans is that many are to fanatical and are unable to view things objectively.

There's one person who has voted for four, but none for all five (although the person I think most likely to pick all five hasn't voted at all, so there's still a chance).

Beyond that, the voting is about what I expected.

Which again is not the topic. Did Nylander perform to his 6.9M contract over the last five years?
Plus what a 20 million bonus? It was frontloaded making this a fake question. At that time he got a fair contract. Period. Is he worth what he is asking for? No. We already have one overpaid winger and an overpaid number 2 C. He didnt outperform nor underperfrom. He got fair value at that time.

The fact he didnt pull a Marner is what upsets him. Well we cant afford two when we need a stud Dman to win a cup.

Even with the polarizing player Nylander has been over his tenure better than 3 quarters of the people who have voted in this thread recognize he’s outperformed his deal.

P.s none of the above. Dubas didnt negotiate a good contract period for the the big 4. When we signed Tavares I said that contract will come back and nip us at the end. The leafs always get taken to the cleaners. I think Treveling is done with it. Nylander gets traded.

No he didn't get "plus ... a 20 million bonus". The bonus was part of the salary, not an addition to.

Again, the topic is not what you think his future performance might be against what you think his future contract might be.

If you don't think he outperformed his existing 6.9M contract, say so, but don't make up phony excuses.
