Given the contracts Dubas gave out; in your opinion; Leafs Nation who has out performed their contract or at least lived up to their contract in comparison to their colleagues league wide?

1) Tavares (11 AAV)
2) Marner (11 AAV)
3) Nylander (7 AAV)
4) Rielly (5 AAV and now 7.5 AAV)
5) Matthews (11.6 AAV and moving forward 13.25 AAV)
6) None of the above

Lets see whats the general consensus. You can at Max select only 2 (or 1 if you don't think 2). You are not allowed to pick a 3rd; because if 3 out of 5 had out performed their contracts we would have seen at least a conference finals by now if not cup finals or winning the cup.

EDIT: The Max selection has been increased to 5

I know he definitely has his warts, but I think Morgan Rielly is possibly a candidate here. When he signed his 5M AAV contract in 2016-2017, some of the market comparables coming in above him included Bogosian (5.14 AAV), OEL, Myers, Petry, and Sekera (5.5). With the benefit of hindsight, Rielly looks pretty good and I definitely think we got value out of that deal.

His current contract may be a bit closer to market value, if you want to call it that. More than Tory Krug and Parayko signed for (6.5), less than a lot of other guys including Jones (9.5), Hamilton (9.0), Nurse (9.25), Werenski (9.5). It's the same AAV as Ekblad, who ranges from fine to... not that great. The worst thing about Rielly's deal, arguably, is the lengthy term, although that may be mitigated by a rising cap.

At a very rough glance (I call it rough because I didn't account for cap percentage and other factors), he'd probably be my pick if you put a gun to my head. Bit tougher to make the case for his current deal, but I have no issue with it.

Nylander and Rielly.

But I would say the other 3 (Tavares, Marner, Matthews) are all performing up to their pricetag. Just not over it.

That’s horsecrap.
My vote will show Matthews & Nylander but the correct answer is those 2 plus Rielly

This is the absolute dumbest thing I've read on this forum.

Pretty much the entire Bruins roster outperformed their contract last year.

The year before pretty much every Florida player outperformed their contracts.

This is idiotic.

This is precisely why I am only allowing 2 votes.

Some here will vote all 5 which is absolutely ridiculous and outside the realm of possibility.

You gotta pick only 2.

I don't agree that Matthews has met expectations of his contract or outperformed it. The favoritism of player has to take a back seat and TEAM has to take the front seat.

How does one explain that 3 guys outperform their contracts who are also one of the biggest cap hits in comparison to their team mates; but the team has only one 1st round win to show for it?

Being "outgoalied" is not an acceptable answer as far as I am concerned.

"I started this poll to hear other people's opinions, but only if they're close to mine"

Nylander for sure, although Mathews was close, afterall he did get 2 rockets (with 60 goals one year), a hart and Lindsay

Question:
Why would the results of this poll threaten your opinion?
Why would you assume that you have most to lose from a 2 option poll?
What are you even talking about? I don't care about poll results, especially on HFboards, but a poll means representing a range of voices. If you restrict a poll to force a result and the answer you want, that erases the entire point of having a poll in the first place and invalidates it.

No. You don't care at all.

Matthews should be getting more votes imo but to each their own. 1 season removed from the Hart and has 2 rockets... Most goals league wide since he entered the NHL all while being well above average defensively. Everyone will go on about the playoffs but the dude gets double dog piled with coverage and gameplanning as both the #1 center and best goal scorer on the team. Nylander being the only player on the team who consistently takes advantage of that fact is the real problem in the playoffs.

Last season was concerning from a health perspective, but looking at the whole picture the guy outplays a 14-15% cap hit pretty handily.

Hopefully finally filling out our left wing and depth scoring will change the playoff narrative in short order

It's how the thread is designed, pretty dumb.

"I started this poll to hear other people's opinions, but only if they're close to mine"

Did i tell people who to vote for? If one doesn’t like the premise of the poll one can start their own or ignore the thread

I don’t post on threads I don’t agree with; I just don’t try to show how “awesome” I am by pointing fingers.

So you didn't actually want a poll. You wanted to force a result to match your opinion because you were scared that people would disagree with you.

I did not even vote in the poll; neither did my post say X is better

I don’t agree with anything you post anyway so you can hold that line of thought for your own views for sure
