Leafs has much better D than previous years no doubt.

So they will win three games when their offense shows up, and the other four games 1-0.

0 reason they shouldn't. They are the better, more experienced team no matter if they face Habs or Sens. I'll take either team in the first round. Should expect high energy from those teams but that will wear off as the series goes on.

I have them in the ECF at a minimum. Would be mind boggling to not make it that far.

I think the leafs do well this year too, but if they went out in the first round it wouldn't be mind boggling, it would be Tuesday.

The core 4 isn’t the issue haha. That blue line is brutal. I think they win a round this year but if they don’t their 4 best players won’t be the reason they don’t, it’ll be the fact that they don’t have a number one, or even number 2, defensman this year.

Their defense isn't bad. It's not top 10, but it is far from terrible.

The first pair of Tanev/McCabe is very good.

Then they have three defensemen who are competent top six guys in Carlo, OEL and Rielly. Rielly has struggled this season, but he may do better in the playoffs and he's not as crucial as he used to be.

Honestly, I don't see much separation in the East at all this year. It will all come down to which team gets more bounces.

I’m no Leafs fan but I think they’re better equipped to go further into the playoffs this year- adding Berbube as coach, Tanev and Carlo on d is a big difference imo

Why post if you don't know what you're talking about? Just for the sake of having an opinion? Our defense is demonstrably better this year, and it wasn't the main issue the last 2-3 years.

We can't score enough goals in the playoffs. Our PP always falters and ES scoring goes down. Toronto struggles in the playoffs when there is less time and space due to aggressive opponents. This is absolutely an issue with our top forwards. Lacking depth scoring is obviously a factor, but we have a disproportionate amount of cap tied up in 4 players. They all need to produce like they are paid, and they generally have not for a full series.

That just seems like an odd place to stop. If they get past potentially both of Tampa and Florida, they lose to.. a shitty team from the Metro or Montreal? Might as well have them losing in the finals to Colorado or Vegas at that point.

For the record I'd be surprised if they got past Ottawa/Florida, and shocked if they got past Tampa/Florida.

But doesn't that seem appropriate for this Leafs core. They beat Ottawa and the punishing Panthers only to lose to Montreal lol

It could be demonstrably better but it’s still not good enough to contend with :(

Favourite pastime of hf boards: discussing Leafs. Damn we need Wasaga Warriors to root for without annoying attention.

Would the Sens beat Toronto for the first time in their history in the postseason?
Can the Habs beat Toronto again?
No to both your questions. The Leafs will run over both those clubs. They are just a lot better than those two teams at limiting high danger chances, while still playing a creative offensive game. Imo the Habs and Sens are somewhat immature in their playing style. They are fun to watch, because of their attacking play, but they give up a lot at the other end as a result.
The Leafs will keep the chances against down and best either of those clubs in 4 or 5 games.

They should advance. They really should. Their team is much better built for playoffs. I actually respect them now but I still can't stand marner & hope they lose in game 7 to the Habs or Sens

There has been a pattern of Leafs fans talking about how awesome the Leafs are, the Leafs losing in the playoffs, Leafs fans talking about how poorly constructed the team is, the next season starts and the Leafs play well in regular season, Leafs fans talking about how awesome the Leafs are, the Leafs losing in the playoffs, Leafs fans talking about how poorly constructed the team is, … It has been fun to watch.

I agree that they are better built for the playoffs. I also think Leafs fans have been less obnoxious this season. (Maybe I have just missed threads with obnoxious Leafs fans or maybe they a really are a bit more reserved, I don’t know.) So maybe they finally will make a run. But a 1st round loss to Ottawa would be hilarious.

Sens give up less goals than the leafs though.

I'd be surprised if Ottawa won a game vs Toronto if that's the series

If it's Florida vs Toronto then it's close but Florida wins.
