Yeah now they just need find a way to play the same playoff bracket from 2024 ... LA, then Vancouver w/o Demko, then Dallas with Oettinger in a bad year.

Good luck ducking Vegas and Colorado forever.
We'll only have to face one of Dallas or Colorado, if we have to face either, ha ha. That might be where our run ends though.

It's looking likely that we face LA again. I won't count our chickens given how we have played recently, but LA is a very winnable series for us. Then we get either Vegas or a lottery team (likely Vegas). Vegas doesn't scare me like they did a couple of years ago, but they are still a better team than Vancouver was last year, assuming no major injuries or anything.

They did though?

They're using $4M of the $5.1M LTIR.

Were you expecting to get much with that last $1M?

I forgot the part about “while healthy scratching Skinner” that was meant to be included.

Broberg and Holloway > LTIR space and healthy scratch Skinner

I’m going with a B because it’s not like there were goalies moved that would have solved our issue. Guys like Vanecek and Mrazek aren’t even an upgrade on Pickard let alone Skinner. We landed a top 9 and a top 4 dman. Those are the other pieces we needed and they got filled

What does that have to do with the deadline though?

I don't think you can really give them an F for not building a time machine.

We’ll have to see how Walman fits before I grade this precisely.

I thought we really needed a strong defending RHD with size.

We got an offensive LHD instead. They say he can play his off-side. They say Kulak can play top 4 RHD. They say a lot of things.

If our defence actually turns out to be substantially improved in whatever new configuration we settle on, it could mitigate the goaltending situation and could power up the offence a bit.

Walman was the #1 D in SJ, he is 20th in the NHL this season in Points per 60 for D. Nobody on Toronto has more points than him, as one example.

Maybe he can be a difference maker of some sort.

I just dont understand how a team with a Right Side of Bouchard - Stecher - Klingberg - Emberson / (Kulak or Walman on their off-side). Combined with a Goalie tandem of Skinner - Pickard … I mean.. on paper thats not good. You needed Adam Larsson or better on the 2RD to settle things down enough to be satisfied with this G tandem.

Who is going to shut down Eichel- Stone on the PP in front of the net? Or Tkachuk - Bennett - Marchand if we get back there.

This team is toast come playoff time, what a f***ing joke. Not that I actually thought Mr waiver wire stan would do anything. Absolute fraud

Grade the TDL moves.

OUT:

2025 2nd
2026 4th
Max Wanner
Shane Lachance

A grade of A shouldn’t even be an option in this pole.

To those that agreed that this level and quality of transactions warranted an A makes me hope that you aren’t working in the education system, developing the future of our country.

Grade will be determined at the end of June. Same answer as last year, and the year before, etc.
I gave them a "C".

They got bigger up front and added another D-man who is having a career year. That was good. Giving up yet another 1st rounder is relatively bad news for a team that (I think) has to reload before the Mc-Drai era is over--- but in the past few years giving up your first round pick in the NHL draft has become more acceptable than it once was. I think its been a bit of a culture change.

Obviously the failure to secure another goalie is not good at all but that was really a process that has been ongoing for the last few years. It wasn't something that was specific to this TDL but rather a position they have taken for the last few seasons. They've hitched their wagon to a guy who is suspect and they really didn't move from that position. I get the feeling that they didn't see a pressing need to do much on this front. We'll see--maybe he can up his game. Pass the vodka and hope for the best.

I give it a B. The deals he did was good, the real failure are all the nmcs hes having to deal with that he didnt sign himself.
Would have wanted more but its okay.
If you look at what the Stanley cup champions add, its never the teams that adds the most that make it. They gotta find a way to get more out of the guys they have.

Frederic feels like the next Athanasiou to me - a guy we'll have for a few games and a short playoff run and then he's gone. Hopefully he'll at least make more of an impact than A.A. did but the price paid will probably end up being regrettable. Walman's not a RHD, not an ideal partner for Nurse, which has been the team's main need for quite a while.

I voted F out of spite but I'll be charitable and revise it to a D+ for at least doing more than our divisional foes did.

The moves they did make - B

The moves they didn’t make - F

I put more weight towards the latter so the average is a F.

They had the whole morning and afternoon to make something work with Donato.

I would’ve also considered overpaying for Daccord.

I like the players, particularly Walman, but it's hard to give this more than a C when the most critical needs of top 6 winger and goalie weren't addressed.

However, my expectations were low coming into the deadline so Walman was actually better than I thought they'd do although the fit is odd to me since he's likely playing 3rd pairing minutes.

Anyway, as I said in another thread, JJ really screwed everything up this summer by giving these middle free agents NMC's (just baffling) and by not prioritizing Holloway in particular then Bowman declined not to match a 2.2m offer sheet for an ascending young player because they wanted to accrue cap space that they never wound up accruing then at this deadline couldn't bring in the top 6 winger because they couldn't move these guys with NMC's to free up the money. A real clusterf***. I do like Walman and Frederic though but critical holes still remain so McDraichard will have to go all time playoff good again to give them a chance.

B for Stan

F- for JJ
Precisely. JJ really left him with a shit hand. Not only the contracts for all these underperforming forwards but the NMC's making them immovable then the offer sheets happening on his watch so Bowman had to scramble to make the best of a shit situation. Not matching Holloway was on Bowman however and that's probably the worst mistake of the offseason, Holloway on Drai's wing would be killer and at the low low price of $2.2m/yr for 2 years. Damn

Daccord would be pretty untouchable for Seattle. This is the first time they are ever getting quality tending.

I like Fredric and I liked what I saw from Jones and highlights I've seen from Walman. With that being said we failed to upgrade on the biggest weakness on our team the last 3 seasons, goal. For that I consider this deadline a big fat F. We are going to have to play nearly flawless defensive hockey and still score 3+ goals a game to win the Cup. Colorado, Dallas, Tampa and Florida are all better than they were last season. The question is, are we?

But do you get the sense (that I do) that Oiler management doesn't see it that way? They see Stu as an excellent goaltender and they weren't going to budge on it?

Either they felt that or their hands were tied by someone with more clout? If Stu shits the bed, Schwartz better be getting tf out the door this summer as well. Stu has a lot riding on this stretch drive and playoffs, if he sucks he will likely have to uproot his young family.

Well that someone with more clout would have to be Katz but I doubt it.

I'll leave this point alone now but it seems to me that this sounds like more of that "buddy" stuff. Clearly the Edmonton media is enchanted with Stu. He's a different character and that usually makes for a good story line.
