I voted D, but I'm still optimistic

First off, the additions we made all look like good ones, even Jones.

We will be adding Kane back, with potential for him to recapture his form. So, there's depth and physicality coming just in time.

Also, our division isn't too hot, so we have a good path to the cup. The third and fourth rounds are the tough ones.

I have doubts about Dallas. Rantanen is a premiere add, but he looked bad in Carolina, and Dallas is a very similar team. Maybe Rantanen needs a true superstar center

The deal they made were good. The deals and holes they left are just inexcusable, and the moves our competitors made hurt.

C-
I think that’s where I am at.
We traded decent value for good players who do not fit our teams needs. It’s better than nothing, Walman will at least be here next year but I think Frederic is straight up wasted assets.

Let's hope they did enough to make the playoffs.

There's a lot of room for error before that becomes a concern. Despite how bad February was, at least two of Calgary, Vancouver, St. Louis or Utah need to be 8-12 points better than Edmonton. So even .500 hockey would mean at least 2 of those team would need to go close to or greater than .750 down the stretch (when many of them either sold or made no additions).

They should have made Donato work, I don't know what held it up, but they should have been able pull that together.
How is Donato different than our other plethora of forwards, stat wise he is having a career year. If they could have traded Henrique, Brown or JSkinner for him, then sure.

Bowman saying he thinks the goaltending has been good in certain stretches during the year particularly when the team has played well in front of them and they’ve fallen apart when the team hasn’t played well. That’s where the disconnect is with the fans. The goaltenders, Skinner particularly were still letting in a lot of bad goals even when the team was playing strong defensively. That Bowman isn’t concerned with the number of bad goals Skinner gives up is very concerning to me.

The good:

- Frederic + Jones + Kane (hopefully) changes the way this incredibly soft, low energy group of bums we have on the wings plays and IMO this is a critical need (not to discount the other critical needs)

- Walman is a pickup that adds very quality depth and I think his style of play is what we need on the back end

The Bad:

- No top 6 winger. Arvidsson needs to be challenged to wake up, and no more rope can be provided to Podkolzin in that position. If the solution is internal start acting like it

The Fireable Offences:

- Not acquiring any goalie at all is ridiculous, negligent, and inexcusable. Maybe there wasn't a surefire Skinner upgrade available, we don't know. Not acquiring any goalie, not even one that can play in the NHL in case of injury, is negligent and incredibly f***ing stupid to the point that it comes across as intentionally defiant. Even if Skinner was playing well it would still make sense to acquire depth here. If we lose in the playoffs because of a goaltending injury, or a lack of effective redundancy behind Pickard the entire front office should be walked. There is no excuse for this.

- Not as critical as above, but the same principle - why the f*** was a 4th line C not picked up? We can't bear to lose a 5th rounder? Makes absolutely no sense, and is a pretty obvious hole in the lineup unless they plan on running one of Henrique or Frederic as the 4C, both of which also make no sense. Guess we have to call Philp up and hope it works, because Kapanen and/or Ryan won't.

I never get offended if we don't land the biggest, sexiest name on the market. Those are hard to do, competitive, and a lot of times not really that necessary. Not adding cheap, vastly available depth in net and at C? Zero excuse. None. Gets a D grade for that alone.

I actually like the trades.

Frederic and Jones are decent adds. Frederic fills a need, Jones provide depth/internal competition. A-

Walman’s a good pick up. He can play both sides. He’s a solid option in the top 4. A+

They didn’t address the goalie upgrade. F

Exactly. The trades that were made were okay I suppose, nothing great, but not really ridiculously bad. I don't like the Frederic one at all myself, but I understand the reasoning of people that like it.

But we didn't fill any of our top needs (tending, scoring winger, RHS Dman). That is an F all day every day, especially with tending being our number 1 need by a country mile.

Considering where we are in the window and what our competitors did - and the NMC’s we handed out which completely handcuffed us (not to mention completely backfired) the TDL was a massive fail in my eyes.

Goaltending (which Colorado addressed in season and we did not) and a scoring top 6 W which we needed because the coach refuses to play our scoring top 6 W, we’re left blank.

Very disappointed but it’s the best they could do given the poor decisions Bowman made with the offer sheets and the handcuffs Jackson put on us.

I’m happy Vegas didn’t do anything - unless I missed it.

Lets be clear people. We not complaining about the deals they completed. People are pissed about the moves they didn't make. Are biggest weakness by far is goaltending and it's been the most ignored issue all season. It's litterally not even brought up by anyone in the organization or paid media ffs

Something seriously fishy is going on and it's gotta be tied to Schwartz. There is no other explanation. They admit they have goaltending problems they admit Schwartz is a problem and we can't have that obviously

TBH, when one reads about how terrible Skinner is, one would expect his SV% to be somewhere in .600%, especially given how many odd man rushes the Defence gives at time. Yet, his percentage is somewhere in between Saros and Binnington. Selling the farm to get another goalie, would had been more likely to sell the farm for a dud than to hit a homerun.

And yes, I know what advance stats are saying.... The reality about advanced stats is that people are using them a lot without realizing what they mean, and it is soo easy to pick stats which seem to make players look bad.

Note that I am not saying that Skinner is a good goalie, I am saying that had we traded for another started we would had probably been disspoited after the playoffs.

As a side note, I remember how excited our fans were when we signed Khabibulin, and how neutral the reaction was when we traded for Rolo. In fact, from what I recall, there were Oilers fans complaing on the deadline day that we paid a first for Rollie while the Nucks paid only a second on a much better goalie (Mika Noronen).

My view of the trade deadline was that getting a goalie would make sense if the right goalie became available, but there was no reason to pay lots of assets to likely get what we already have.

I like all the moves but the absence of a goalie upgrade makes this a C for me

Aside from goaltending, the team looks strong and there are ample options if there are injuries

I hope we lose and get embarrassed in the first and if it's even by the kings so be it.....

Them I can just be done with the season because I know we won't get by Colorado amd esp Dallas or Winnipeg so why drag it out......

The moves we did make I think are some of the best ones made this deadline. But nobody else to try and match with Leon is a failure - as is no other attempts at a good goaltender, but I really wasn't thinking that would happen.

I don't mind the moves they made, but they definitely dropped the ball today not making another

They paid for retention on Frederic and didn't even use the cap savings..

would like to see them be more aggressive in the last year of McDavids contract

I give them C-

Truth be told, I'm happy they dodged that bullet.

He's not a bad player, but he the Oil have enough average sized scorers. This is where Frederic and eventually Kane help out. They can open up the ice for Skinner, RV, Henrique types. Donato doesn't help with that,
