it probably just validates the findings from Staois and Andlauer that things really have to change here starting with Dorion
Yeah you could be right, though I suspect they planed on getting their guy in from the start.

Its funny, I was open to the idea that they were going to evaluate to start, but given what has been said, and just as importantly what has not been said by either guy, I’m totally in the camp of them having their guy and timing is the issue.

Could it be Darche? The Staios rumours panned out at long last so I’m not betting against it.

You’re right though, maybe some early bungles could force a faster move.

I’m gonna enjoy the ride of this board when Dorion is fired and they hire Chiarelli
1 step forward 3 steps back type of move.

I feel he did alright considering he was only hired due to already being in the organization and the owner wasn't prepared to pay for someone with the actual capabilities for the job.

I tend to agree with this. This is an operational issue versus legal issue. Legal will advise on the obvious, the player with the NTC needs to provide a list, and this must be received by July 1.

It's up to operations to confirm that the list has been submitted, not the legal dept, as this is an operational procedure. Legal departments typically don't do quality control of operational procedures. Hopefully there are procedures and some quality control of those procedures within the Senators organization.

when the agent is sending in the no trade list to the NHL just seems obvious the NHL would have an email so they could in in CC so they get the same documents as the club? Is that too obvious and not complicated enough?

Seems like a simple enough solution - and everyone has everything on file

I have to agree with you here.

I worry that most folks will simply choose another target though instead of all of a sudden becoming happy Sens fans.

I think the key to this not happening is don’t continually f*** up and suck ass- and don’t pander to unseen character in an owner who’s abusive to his fans to just to save your job.

Dorion’s job performance is one thing and it’s bad enough to be fired, but his character and always sticking up for Melnyk and speaking to his impeccable character is what seperates it for me. Dorion knew the abuse and low character of Melnyk and what Melnyk was spewing at the fans and Dorion acted as if known of that ever happened and always doubled down on Melnyk’s great character.

Dorion has lack of maturity - works hard but if this new owner was a complete dick to the fans Dorion would be right there with him turning a blind eye to him crapping on the fanbase

That’s how it ends up after this is over, the NHL will now know moving forward. For some reason they didn’t want the teams lists getting out in public, so they didn’t want to know the teams.

Why the NHL never knew about the teams, is laughable, at least they are going to change the rules, and start tracking this.

If sens lose a draft pick its a pretty big mistake and fireable mistake

We have seen GMs generally get fired for doing things like this

Its only a matter of time

Nothing comes to mind…. Does anyone have an example?

No Chiarelli is an upgrade on Dorion. He knows how to run a winning culture. He isn't an insecure snake.

Matt Nichol is an amazing hire
100 p. This deserves its own thread. All the best players use his nutrition and training programs in the summer (crosby, mcdavid etc). He is innovative and really helps players stay healthy and maximize what their bodies are capable of. Should help with injuries. He's big into body weight excersizes, resistance and flexibility.

It's an upgrade, IMO, but only a marginal one. We need better.

Yup.

Chiarelli's best moves are like Dorion's best moves - the easiest ones to achieve that speak the least to GM quality.

There are still a few not-too-bright Oilers fans who defend Chiarelli because he signed McDavid and Draisaitl long-term, as if signing an RFA with no ability to leave was some kind of accomplishment only Chiarelli could have achieved.

Like Dorion when Chiarelli engaged in player acquisition/departure via trade/signing it was largely a complete disaster, and that is by far the biggest determinant of GM quality and where they make the most difference to their team's success or failure compared to their peers.

We should steer clear of him. There are so many better candidates.

Getting rid of Dorion as soon as possible is now definitively an exercise in damage mitigation

Andlauer came in preaching accountability. This is his first litmus test.

There's no way Dorion should continue as GM.

I'm not saying they need to have a long-term replacement in the seat by the end of the day. But there's no reason that the combination of Staios, Bowness and Tierney can't handle GM duties for the rest of the year.

I dig BenJiv's take on the main board, that the new info could have been recently-departed front office staff suddenly eager to disencumber themselves.

Honestly they should make Dorion publicly apologize for this incident and then resign in disgrace. Firing him is too light a punishment.

Make him squirm on TV.
