People in hockey tend to have a soft spot for the players who used to play for them on other teams. Some of the current NHL players who were part of the Staios era in Hamilton:

Robert Thomas
Riley Stillman

Arber Xhekaj

Maybe some are future Ottawa Senators.

Andlauer has done so much in such a short period to completely revamp our hockey ops. Love to see it, exciting times ahead boys.

Next up is a replacement for Trent Mann? Alfie as VP of Hockey Ops maybe?

Alfie is likely going to by VP of Player Development, and work more with the coaching staff and players on gameplans/skills at the NHL level vs. the President/GM on signings/trades.

I've always wondered why a role like that isn't more common. Typically player development is focused on prospects, not NHLers.

Over the course of the season, coaches are hyper-focused on wins and losses (ice time, systems, etc). Having an eye in the sky who could say, "Hey Timmy, I noticed you're getting off your shot in the slot a half second too late, let's spend a couple weeks working on that release..."

Alfie would be great at that.

The simple fact that we're adding people who are respected and highly thought of in hockey circles is a plus.

Will it end in winning? Time will tell. But investments are clearly being made already.

Exactly. It's not a running joke like an NHL team's owner hiring a media personality like McGuire without the GM's blessing only to be fired as soon as the owner passed.
