So Cal
What happens first, the Kings win a playoff round or Pierre assists on Ovi’s goal to break the record? If I’m Pierre, I’m happy to not get bought out, play 1C minutes and not have to line up next to Laffeireire next season.

Problem with this comment....Lafferierre looked to be 10X the hockey player PLD was. As a rookie coming out of the NCAA he looked more like a bonadide player than PLD did and outscored him in the playoffs with PLDs loan point being a fluke goal.

We have a right to be mad at Blake for aquiring PLD- Caps fans should be livid.

Yeah but with our luck Dubois reverts back to an 80 point player in Washington.

I was willing to give Pretty Lazy Dude at least another season but I’m totally fine with moving on, just sucks at the prior assets given up to get him.

If Blake goes and re-signs Roy with the forward core looking the way it does…

What a massive failure. Kings going nowhere. Kings leadership don't have a clue on how to run a team. Any other GM on another team would be fired for making the move to bring PLD in and run out of town for trading him for nothing. Kings gave up Vilardi for this, Vilardi did great for the Jets.

PLD reverting back to an 80 point player (did he ever score 80 pts?) is not an issue for me, aka good ridden's to him, don't let the door hit him ..... But I understand your thinking. I'm glad for this trade for a couple of reasons:

1. He's F'n gone!

2. It looks like the Kings 1st rounder isn't part of this deal! It's a miracle!!

3. He's F'n gone!!!

I don't know why anyone cares how much PLD scores in Washington. You can't win with a player like that. He might score 70-80 points but he doesn't back check and doesn't defend with his stick. You put a player like that on a winning team and well, look what happened this season man. Like do you think that he's going to become anything besides a huge defensive liability? You think he's going to give effort defensively? We all know that he won't. You think the Capitals are going to win something with this loser? They're stuck with this bozo for seven years.

It's also nice that Blake presumably cleared the deck for the next front office, but I'm sure he'll f*** that up somehow in a couple weeks. If he's going to make a mistake and give out a long term deal I hope he gives it to Zadorov.

I had to check calendar, thought it was April 1st.

Assume some of the 💰 saved will go towards Byfield

I've been playing hockey since I could walk, and I'll tell you one thing that I have universally seen at all levels of the sport. Hockey players are not the smartest people in the world.

For the life me, I'll never understand why we have owners that try and force hockey players (of all people) into running billion dollar sports teams.

So just by making the trade, we save $3.5 million a year depending on how it is spent will decide if this is a win or loss in the long term.

Another way to look at it is our best case scenario was Dubois was bought out for a third his contract. The cop pets for the next three years was 1.5 million, 1.6 million, and 2.5 million

It got even worse if the playoffs continue and he’s bought out a 2/3 his contract, which I don’t believe the kings would do

So basically from our best case scenario, somehow Blake made it even better by making this trade. I’m looking at it as PLD just got bought out, we save 11 extra years on the buy out penalty , and Kuemper makes about 4.75 million for the next two years and 3.75 the third year and then this whole mess is behind us if we would’ve took what the buyout penalty would’ve been for the three years office current contract

I never understood why Bluc kept drafting and signing/trading for centers. It really effed up the development of some key players, putting Byfield on the wing was absolutely stupid.

Now we got Byfield/Kopi/Danault/ maybe Turcotte down the middle.

Now I don’t think the Kings are done making trades, I expect toffoli to be signed as well.

I don't need every player to be a 200 foot two way Selke guy, so an offensive focused player doesn't scare me away (you just need to use them right). What I won't tolerate is flat out laziness, and nobody who watched PLD can argue that that guy wasn't just going through the motions out there.

With that said, Blake only gets a extremely small "good job" out of this. He burned assets for this bum and gave him that deal in the first place.

what do you think the first thing that went through Yannetti‘s mind was when he heard PL was traded?

Probably something like :

Oh $@(&. There goes our 1st.

At the end of the season I made a prediction that next season PLD would have a career best season, but would ultimately not matter with regards to the success (lack thereof) of the Kings.

It just didn't turn out to work the exact same way as I thought.

He'll have a great season, and it won't impact the Kings one bit... because he'll be on the Caps.

That's probably the best thing about getting rid of PLD, it cost them zero future assets or retention. That in itself is a miracle.

This is just as good as winning the Stanley Cup. So the season has to now be considered a monumental success.

Realistically, what the f*** was Blake thinking bringing in PLD? You pay that much money for him to be a 3rd line center? Blake 100 percent didn’t think this through. As bad PLD was he didn’t even have a future here.

Kopitar extended? Ok…
Byfields gonna be a center for sure
You have Danault who has performed admirably.

Where did you expect to slot this guy at that price for 8 years? I’d rather have had PLD fail on the first line than the 3rd line. It was awful scouting bringing him in the first place and he didn’t have a real chance of being a top 6 player anytime soon. He was not going to supplant Kopitar Danault and Byfield anytime soon, what was the point of diving head first in and paying top center money and assets for a 3rd line player.

The curse of Kopitar and Doughty continue to block routes for any players
Knee jerk reaction to losing to the Oilers in the playoffs!

Blake isn't smart enough to make this deal. I feel like he and Washington GM Brian MacLellan flipped a coin and Blake just happened to come out on top.

Heads = No retention
Tails = 50% retention

Because we know Blake can't negotiate for sh*t.
