GDT: PLAYOFFS: The Canes are Able

I know counting stats aren’t everything, but I really don’t think you can scratch Roslovic.View attachment 1018462
That's why I wanted Robinson to be the scratch on the 4th line. Roslovic-Jankowski-Carrier is the 4th line that makes the most sense at this point.
Can you f**king believe that zebra watching Dougie cross check Svech and no call?
Really inexcusable. He was just a few feet away from them just staring at the crosscheck to Svech. iirc, it was a crosscheck after the whistle was blown too.
Messier is about 2 seconds away from elbowing Subban.
If only.
Markstrom slashes Glass
Cant say I recall seeing a goalie slash their own player.
I couldn't help but laugh out loud at Markstrom hitting his own playing. I wasn't laughing at the player being injured, but the fact that Markstrom was so unhinged and he hit the wrong team. Yeah, I've never seen a goalie slash their own player either.

Do we really need to complain about those complaining about the jersey GDT complaints?

If it stops the cross-GDT posting, yes. I don't care what the other fanbase says, and mocking them is hypocritical when posters on our board aren't any better after a playoff loss (I'm sure I can dig up the old Rangers or Panthers GDTs to confirm)

I was half joking but seriously, who really cares. Just move past those posts man

Little side story from the game. My son and his friend ended up watching part of the game from the top of the lower level concourse, and they met Noesen's Mom who was in the handicap area in front of them with her Dad. They talked for a bit - won't get into all the details, but one thing she said was Noesen was "distraught" over leaving the Canes and loved it here, and let's just say she is not a big fan of Dundon and his involvement in the negotiations.

The under tone from a lot of things we hear.

Dundon brought us out of the Karmanos era, which was one of shit and pain. But we absolutely should have kept Pesce and Noesen. We could easily have afforded 2.5M a year for a guy like Noesen, and we're stupid for letting him walk in favor of Roslovic. We should have kept one of pesh or sjkei (we werent paying Skjei what he got so it would have and shoulda been pesce) and Noesen.

The other guy we are stupid for letting walk is Nino. And while I understand Trochek, well... We still have no 2C. Noesen was an easy keep though.

I’d scratch Carrier of that bunch. He has been mostly invisible to me all year. Robinson is faster and big and is more visible to me during the games.

Pesce could've been kept, I agree. Simultaneously, however, when you have that many free agents expiring at one time, it's understandable that a bunch of guys get away when they probably could've stayed.

Yeah, I'm more Tulsky apologist on that one. We had just an absolute shitstorm of expiring contracts last offseason. Here is how I'd rank them in descending order of importance.

Jarvis (RFA)
Guentzel
Necas (RFA)
Skjei
Pesce
Teravainen
Chatfield
Martinook
Noesen
Drury

I can see why Noesen got lost in the shuffle. We essentially traded $2.75M Noesen for $2M Carrier. Carrier is likely less impactful in the regular season, but I'd rather have Carrier for the playoffs personally. Similarly, I would rather have Martinook than Noesen, somewhat significantly so.

In arena was very good today….

Enjoyed that playoff game for sure.

Other than a few tiny stretches we were all over them and they had nothing for us….. sure wish we could have finished a few of those primo scoring chances to put it out of reach sooner…. If we had made it 5-0 or 6-0, which was totally possible in spite of Markstrom standing on his head, then we kill their will and it is never in doubt…

because as much as we dominated them for long stretches, that Freddie save totally kept the game from turning when it was still 3-1…. Amazing that we could absolutely dominate them for such long stretches and then a slight miscue and jersey has a good chance in close. When the puck started bouncing around and we couldn’t clear it out of the zone it made you pinch the cheeks a bit..

Are some of you forgetting that many here not only thought that a long term Pesce contract was very likely to turn into a cruise ship anchor down the line, but that we were already seeing signs of decline, and with his injury history the drop off in play could be steep and quick?

That risk was always the biggest problem with bringing Pesce back imo, and while I wish there was some way we could have kept him that mitigated that risk, I can't imagine anything that might have been acceptable to both parties. Given that, I think that Chat @ $3m for 3 years was a smarter play than Pesce at $5.5 for 6 years. Having said that, I hope those concerns turn out to be baseless and wish only for the best for Pesce (as long as it's not at the expense of the Canes, of course).

On an alternate timeline, Necas would’ve agreed to be traded to Columbus, we draft Demidov, sign Guentzel, & keep Peesh instead of signing Walker.

Let a man dream.

Yeah… every single move we’ve made in the last 12 months is aging pretty darn well, with the gigantic exception of letting Guentzel walk.

I know you didn't mean it that way, but I'll point out (for others) that unlike Pesce, Skjei, and Noesen they didn't let Guentzal walk. Your intended point stands that they did screw up in screwing around with the negotiations to the point that they lost him.

edit: not trying to be pedantic, just pointing out that Guentzal was an error in execution, not an error in strategy.
