Montreal takes back WC2. Yes! 🤣

Detroit climbs to one point back after beating the lousy Bruins. Wings only play 2 games next week @ St. Louis (good luck with that one) & versus Carolina.

Still 5 teams within one point of each other.

NYR leading 2-0 over Sharks in 1st period. As long as they don't screw it up again, it looks like they'll move 2 points up on Montreal/Columbus. Both will have 2 games in hand.
It’s pretty wild we’ve managed to hold on to that last wildcard spot with 2 loser points in our last 5 games.

At this point the rags are the team i dont want to get in. Rags/caps have happened too many times

Rangers take a 3-0 lead now. They will most likely have a 2 point lead over the Habs after tonight. The Habs 2 games that they have in hand on the Rangers will be against the Panthers on Sunday and Tuesday as the Rangers don't play until Wednesday.

Washington literally laughing and planning the second round
Yea yea , every year we hear that and then a wc team upset a top ranked team in the first round . And some say the goalie stole it , others say it was cause they had to play meaningful games to get in ….
This year I would say they laughed all the was to the second round and ended on a golf course instead….

Oh and if you want a recent example of the hf board jinx ,,, Boston with their top record playing a useless Florida team that only got in cause Chicago beat Pitts I remember , they won’t break a sweat , a sweep without any effort , no one can beat the bruins

The mid-off has truly reached another level. The fact that the Habs lost 5 in a row, lost 8th place, and gain it back because CBJ lost is crazy

Yeah, that didn't last very long. Back at 9. We better start winning...I say if we go at a minimum 6-2-2 in the last 10, we might have a chance but that is bare minimum.

This team has been gifted chance after chance to grab that last playoff spot. The other teams keep losing important games... How about we finally show some determination and intensity to claim the eight seed?

No second line is too big a hole on team. Laine is terrible defensively. Newhook playing decent but is not a #2 center. Roy played a few games at left wing but is not ready yet. Last few games Evans took a few shifts even Heineman a few. But no second line at all.

I get that, but it doesn't excuse playing with no intensity at this time of the year. This same team was playing a lot better 2-3 weeks ago.

The Philadelphia and Carolina games were quite bad.

Habs been streaky team all year. First 6 years looked like candidate for top pick in draft. From early Dec to mid Jan hottest team in league. Then bottom fell out leading up to 4 nations. Then next 11 games after the break the second best record in league. Last 5 games all losses.

The difference is that during the 4 nations tourney, they had 2 weeks to recharge the batteries. Now not so much time to recharge anything. I just hope they can find the desperation energy to give all for the last 10 games.

Agreed but after todays game vs Fla, 6-of last-10 GP are at home where their record reflects reality…. last change allows 1st line & Hutson from not being line matched by opposition.

Need to find a way to eke out 2pts in Fla somehow ….someway

The way to WC2

Rangers: 8 games left, 77 pts. Can't have more than 93 pts if they win all of them.
Habs: 10 games left, 75 pts. Can't have more than 95 pts if they win all of them.
Jackets: 10 games left, 75 pts. Can't have more than 95 pts if they win all of them.
Islanders: 10 games left, 74 pts. Can't have more than 94 pts if they win all of them.
Wings: 9 games left, 74 pts. Can't have more than 92 pts if they win all of them.

This is going to be the lowest total point to get a WC in probably history.
Projection has fallen to 86 pts and I'm starting to doubt any of these teams will manage to win that much.

Rangers do beat the Sharks, 6-1. Montreal falls 2 points back with 2 games in hand, but unfortunately those 2 games in hand are this home & home series with Florida. We'll need 3 of 4 points to pass NYR.

Games today:

1 PM: Montreal @ Florida - Montreal needs to get at least a point today then a win at home on Tuesday to get ahead of NYR. The good news is Montreal has played Florida well this year. They beat them 4-0 in December then 3-1 March 15th. Both games were when Montreal was on a hot streak. That's not the case now. Still Montreal has proven they can do it. There's no Ekblad or Tkachuk for Florida.

5 PM: NYI @ Canes - NYI are under .500 on the road, while Carolina has one of the best home records. This is a back-to-back for Islanders, but not for Canes. I expect Sorokin to play again, as Roy has played him in every game since 4 Nations break, I believe.

Islanders are 3 points back of NYR with 2 games in hand, like Montreal they play those 2 games today & Tuesday. On Tuesday, Islanders are back home versus Tampa Bay.

Boston is now 8 points back with same gp as NYR. They're officially done. The magic number for Boston's elimination is now 8 points.

Ottawa's magic number for clinching a playoff spot is 13 points.

This is why I talked about games in hand meaning nothing and points in hand meaning everything.

The East is so bad outside of 6 teams

We are just as close to Buffalo in the standings as we are to Ottawa.

And we are much closer to Buffalo than to Tampa or Toronto.

Whoever makes the 8 seed this year won’t really deserve it

Hopefully we make a lot of moves this offseason because making the playoffs in the East should be a slam dunk moving forward

I would actually say that only 5 teams are really good as Ottawa will most likely pass NJ in points as they have 3 games in hand. NJ would be better but their injuries to some key players have brought down their level of play significantly.
