Playoffs. It's a good draft year, but it is time to see the playoffs. We will get a good player regardless.
Everyone with any sense should be hoping for the playoffs. The difference between a playoff team and a lottery team is far greater than what a player picked in the lottery can do for you. It's only when you're set up to draft in the 8-14 range that you should actually be hoping to improve draft position.

Because that is the title of the thread (Playoffs or High Draft Pick?)
Roberto Luongo represents a pretty good chance at 8th place but nothing beyond that (Playoffs).
Morgan Rielly is a high draft pick. (High Draft Pick)
Which is better?
Who do you take?
What does wanting playoffs or a high draft pick have to do with trading a 1st round pick?

My ideal scenario. Leafs make playoffs in late seed and win a round. We then draft Domi in the first round.

Seguin barely contributed to Boston's success so I have no idea where you're going with that one.
Win. Always win, no other option. Anyone who wants to lose on purpose is not a true sports fan.
The good thing about a shortended season is that it should be easier to predict if you are a bad team and should get a solid draft pick, or if you are a good team that should make the playoffs.
The Leafs cannot afford to screw this up either way by finishing just on the outside. This would easily be the worst thing possible.
Also, I do not buy the free-agents will not sign with a losing hockey team argument. Free-agents were, at the very least, just as negatively affected towards signing in Toronto with Burke's self-imposed cap on long-term deals as they were with Toronto as a losing hockey team.

If you want your team to lose, you shouldn't be watching sports. Sorry but thats just a fact. You're Pejorative Slured and deserve a punch to the face for wanting your team to lose because you think it some how magically makes you better.You're not going to draft 20 super stars

playoffs happen whether or not the leafs are there.
Only the true fans can put up with their team losing in order to win in the long run. If you disagree with that you arent a true fan you are a fickle fan who cares more about instant gratification than winning it all.

Yes let's rebuild all over again, and then in four years when Nonis is fired after no playoffs we can rebuild again and miss the playoffs another four years.

As much as I love Morgan Rielly, and I think he'll be a great player, if he was in this years draft, especially with his draft year circumstances, he wouldn't be in the top 5. Heck, he might be borderline top 10. This draft is THAT good, and THAT deep.

That's fair but I was really just using Rielly as an example:
Top 5 pick (just like Morgan Rielly was....perhaps Lindholm this year)
or
A better chance at the playoffs now. (Luongo at the cost of Kadri and Gardiner)

We didn't tank.
When we did we gave the pick to Boston.
We have never rebuilt here in Toronto.
Not in decades.
Just turning over the roster.
It's long overdue.

Whether it was a tank on purpose or not, we've tanked. After missing the playoffs for eight years, if you think a true rebuild is in the near future. Sorry but, that's just not going to happen. This team has been **** for too long to go through another 5-6 years of purposely missing the playoffs.
