But…but the prestige.

...more like the embarassment. Why coudn't you ever get it done when it mattered most?

Nice picture though, the Sharts definitely have more "banners" than the Kings.

This isn't a criticism of your post, simply an observation, because by your post I know you and I agree.

Didn't Nashville have a hilariously bad banner for something?
Not sure about the Preds but the Sens have these.

I think the biggest thing for SJ was they never really had an elite goaltender through almost all those years. Nakokov was ok but inconsistent, and then after that there wasn't anyone good.

I think had they not traded Kiprusoff in 2004 they might have won one.

Joe Thornton achieved point per game status in the playoffs just twice. Once with 6 points in 6 games and once with 11 points in 11 games.

He also scored a minuscule amount of goals. I realize he was primarily a playmaker, and one of the best in the league at that, but he had only 25 goals in 144 playoff games. You just need more from a 1C.

Yeah, that's an unfortunate distinction from there...they're probably the best franchise, at least top 3, over a freaking 15 year period...yet they never had one year where someone else didn't do just that much better. Incapable of just having everything come together at once. And I agree, it was usually generall goaltending, without splicing Thornton/Marleau/Vlasic too hard.

Top three behind the Blackhawks and the Kings. :)

Only needing true .500 for 100 points is amazing

can these guys do better though?? suddenly the pacific is unstoppable, all the 'flawed' teams addressed major concerns

Slightly more than a goal every six games. Getting into Dwight King territory (playoff Dwight) in terms of GPG.

One goal a series if it goes six games ... from your 1st line center? Yikes.

I hate jumping ahead talking about playoffs when it's not set in stone yet, but just for conversational purposes we get Edmonton if the playoffs started today correct? Damn that's gonna be another barn burner.

Yep.

The Kraken/Oilers game tomorrow should be a fun watch.

Is the magic number now 122 pts after that shootout loss?
Apparently, we are now destined to miss the playoffs due to being out-goalied in last game. Turns out putting Spence in the lineup was not the key to victory, it was using Byfield in OT. Once again, TM fails under pressure, season is lost and Kings are doomed.

Teams can win the Cup with 0 goals from their 1C in the conference and Cup finals combined. Or at least a team can. Or at least a team did. Although probably not a repeatable recipe, outside of happenstance.
