Playoff race/Scoreboard watching thread

There was one point in mid OT where I was screaming at Bedard. There was a 50/50 puck battle in the O zone and one of the Habs was breaking out of the zone and Bedard was just standing on the opposite half wall doing absolutely nothing. If the Habs got the puck it would’ve been game. Felt lucky there. lol I couldn’t believe I was watching Bedard just stand there like a f***ing dumbass.

Was listening to Hawks radio broadcast. They had no idea what was happening. They called a goal for Nazar, then a stop for their goalie, then a bunch of muss and fuss and they just had no idea. Ref announces goal for Hawks, they’re like “we knew that.”

So I still don’t know what happened.
From what I can tell from a discussion on the mains, despite everyone with access to the behind-the-net cam being able to clearly see the puck in the net, the refs for a moment there didn't think a goal had been scored, and it took them a moment to realize otherwise. It's confusing as hell because CHSN didn't mention any such controversy either.

Seriously, the refs weren't exactly covering themselves in glory with this game.

Yeah, I can't say Bedard really impressed me. Nazar and Rinzel, OTOH, for the most part looked pretty good to me. Still some Mistakes Of Youth here and there, but damn I wouldn't mind having them in union blue.

As we saw last year in the final game on the road, Carolina mailed it in against us. I don’t expect anything different unfortunately.

But we can only control what we can control

We weren’t playing for anything last year though.

I remember there was one year (I can’t remember which year) where we had clinched the playoffs but Torts was gonna play all of our regulars in game 82 because the team we were playing was fighting for a playoff spot and Torts wanted to “respect the game”. But then the night before, that team either clinched or was eliminated, so then Torts decided to rest Bob and Panarin.

It’d be nice if Carolina approached it similarly if we win (in regulation) tomorrow.

Carolina has 99 points. Tampa has 100 and Florida has 98. Whether or not this affects what they do in the last two games or not remains to be seen, but if the Canes make the Conference Final, their point total relative to those teams could have a say in whether or not they have home ice.

So Carolina's games aren't meaningless. Whether or not they value those points over potentially resting important players? That's another question.

He really tricked that entire fanbase by scoring all of those PPG's early this season.

Guy just doesn't like hockey. Wish we could have gotten rid of him without losing a pick but whatever. Good riddance.
Even when he was scoring those PP goals his underlying 5v5 metrics were bad.

This Habs-Jackets race is so fun to watch.
Caught the Jackets game today, the guys are on a mission. Good D zone coverage and Greaves bailed his team out when he needed to.
Gut feeling though: Habs win tomorrow on a Laine PP GWG. Would be an interesting ending to both our seasons lol
Either way, win or lose, don’t think either team make it far this year in the playoffs. It’s more about getting our young players that first taste of playoffs to build on for next year.

According to puckpedia these are the guys Carolina called up from their AHL affiliate yesterday:

Bradly Nadeau -- 5'10 F, their leading scorer, 1st round pick from 2023
Riley Stillman -- 6'2 LD, 3-6-9 in 35 games this year
Domenick Fensore -- 5'7 LD, 9-23-32 in 66 gp
Skyler Brind'Amour -- 6'3 C, 16-7-23 in 67gp

Carolina played two LDs (Slavin and Orlov) and 4 RDs in their last game. I'd expect at least one of Stillman or Fensore to draw in for one of those regulars vs Montreal. Another regular LD Gostisbehere was scratched vs Toronto, maybe he'll be back in the lineup tonight? Both AHL forwards should also be playing while top scorers Aho and Jarvis rest?

MTL can of course dictate matchups since it's their home game. And another thing worth noting: CAR's AHL team have already clinched a playoff spot, which implies that the players they now called up will have more meaningful games to play this season regardless of what happens in CAR's last regular season games, and that may imply there's less pressure for them to go all out and "prove themselves" in the eyes of coaching staff and FO.

I think that CAR winning in regulation would be a bigger surprise than CHI beating MTL in shootout.

......

So yeah it's likely over. At least it was a fun year. Lots of pleasant surprises. Players we most wanted to improve showed prominent signs of improvement. My perception of Monahan was so flawed, I never realized how smart of a hockey player he was until he started playing for Jackets. Seems to be an excellent leader as well. Werenski is incredible, we're so lucky to have him as the 1D. Jet gives me hope our goaltending will go from bad to acceptable level next year. All results, reports and interviews suggest Evason was a great choice for HC given the stage the team is at in their rebuild.

I still have serious doubts about the competence of FO but I must admit that with Waddell they've taken some steps in the right direction.

nadeau is awesome. stillman's played plenty of NHL games in his career.

worth noting that andersen will probably be in net, and he's been awesome this year.
