Playoff race/Scoreboard watching thread

nadeau is awesome. stillman's played plenty of NHL games in his career.

worth noting that andersen will probably be in net, and he's been awesome this year.

carolina has rotated goalies every single start for nearly 3 months now. it’ll (99 percent) be kochetkov tonight for the hurricanes.

Columbus fans tonight:

OK, for those who don't like Dom, just another reason to dislike him more. He did what he calls a "Stanley Cup Checklist" for the fifteen teams who have made the playoffs...plus Montreal. I mean really...WTF? Total disrespect. The article dropped today so even if he wrote the article a few days ago they could have easily just deleted the Habs section from the article.

Personally I hope he just jinxed the hell out of the Habs and he ends up with yet another "mea culpa" to CBJ fans as he wipes the egg off his face.

Made a swing by the Canes GDT to wish them luck. Looks like the majority if not all of their fans are on our side tonight.
Not shocking. The Carolina Montreal feud goes back to Koivu days. But was reignited with the Aho/Kotkaniemi drama.

I still wish we both could have made it. I was cheering for Columbus down the stretch, but damn Ottawa was too good.

I still love Monahan.

May the best team win. Good luck.

I'm not going to get in with all the drama with MTL here but, Carolina does need a win. Team as a whole has been pretty awful since clinching.

Kotchekov needs some confidence going into the playoffs, he's not been great lately. Guys like Nadeau/Fensore have a lot to prove. I'm sure Skylar Brind'Amour wants to make dad proud.

So there is incentive for Carolina to win tonight besides being spoiler. Will they do it? Maybe. I'm sure Montreal will be playing their asses off too.

According to puckpedia these are the guys Carolina called up from their AHL affiliate yesterday:

Bradly Nadeau -- 5'10 F, their leading scorer, 1st round pick from 2023
Riley Stillman -- 6'2 LD, 3-6-9 in 35 games this year
Domenick Fensore -- 5'7 LD, 9-23-32 in 66 gp
Skyler Brind'Amour -- 6'3 C, 16-7-23 in 67gp

Carolina played two LDs (Slavin and Orlov) and 4 RDs in their last game. I'd expect at least one of Stillman or Fensore to draw in for one of those regulars vs Montreal. Another regular LD Gostisbehere was scratched vs Toronto, maybe he'll be back in the lineup tonight? Both AHL forwards should also be playing while top scorers Aho and Jarvis rest?

MTL can of course dictate matchups since it's their home game. And another thing worth noting: CAR's AHL team have already clinched a playoff spot, which implies that the players they now called up will have more meaningful games to play this season regardless of what happens in CAR's last regular season games, and that may imply there's less pressure for them to go all out and "prove themselves" in the eyes of coaching staff and FO.

I think that CAR winning in regulation would be a bigger surprise than CHI beating MTL in shootout.

......

So yeah it's likely over. At least it was a fun year. Lots of pleasant surprises. Players we most wanted to improve showed prominent signs of improvement. My perception of Monahan was so flawed, I never realized how smart of a hockey player he was until he started playing for Jackets. Seems to be an excellent leader as well. Werenski is incredible, we're so lucky to have him as the 1D. Jet gives me hope our goaltending will go from bad to acceptable level next year. All results, reports and interviews suggest Evason was a great choice for HC given the stage the team is at in their rebuild.

I still have serious doubts about the competence of FO but I must admit that with Waddell they've taken some steps in the right direction.
When I knew it was over was when CBj had to call up a goalie. Call ups never work out and are doomed to fail.

It’s definitely very unlikely the Canes win. But we’ve been dealing with “unlikely” for weeks now. We’ll see where it lands, but I don’t have any massive expectations.

If the Canes score first and make Montreal nervous, maybe it can happen. But if Montreal jumps on them early I’m guessing the Canes will just lay down.

That sneaky Rod Brind'Amour clearly using reverse psychology here. Bench all of you scorers and ice a bunch of AHLers. Montreal won't even bother to tighten their skates. Carolina gets the empty netter and wins 3-1.

I assume part of the reason all these guys are getting the game off is so they don't even have to travel (can really be at ease for an extra day). If this game is in Carolina do we think all those guys sit or maybe just a couple of them?

I hope that all of those players aren't out of the Canes lineup. Treating today like our own gameday

I think that's exactly what it means. I wonder if those guys even traveled with the team to Canada.
