I'm not convinced Kleven really can replace Chabot, they occupy completely different roles. That's a steal, and this contract will bring him to the point of replacing Cahbot
I became concerned about Cowan when he was not used much by the Canadian junior team. I think injuries reduced his effectiveness in the NHL; however he had some tools including skating and physical size / play.He has the tools in his toolbox. It is exciting to anticipate. I remember feeling this way about Jared Cowan. Too bad that did not work out.
I think he would have preferred another defenseman to Yak when the Senators made the pick. As did I and others. Yak has not accomplished much since to change minds whereas other D picks have continued to develop and progress. Homerism is in play here for Yak.He hates the pick
Proper coaching to get "the best" out of certain players who need to be "motivated".Kleven did kind of suck at camp/during pre-season, I think Sebrango even outplayed him if I’m remembering correctly.
So I kinda get it. He’s riding the high of being the guy who broke out in the playoffs and they likely want to make sure he doesn’t get complacent. Just might be one of those people that needs a little push like that sometimes.
I won't go as far as you to say I "love" the left side of our D core. It's getting better but still lacks physical play and strong defensive play.Love it. I absolutely love the left side of our D and I think Kleven showed he could eventually develop into a darned good second pairing guy too.
Fair, but I think with the way the organization wants the team to be, he is going to be playing 20 plus in the second year of the contract. he skates too well, has great vision and has the right type of brooding, developing edge to his game. If he thinks what I think he is, he will be a 7M player next contract, and Chabot will be gone.I'm not convinced Kleven really can replace Chabot, they occupy completely different roles.
At best, this would give Yakemchuk time to get far enough along to replace Chabot's role, and Kleven would take on Jensen's role only as a partner to Yakemchuk.
I agree. Hamonic spoke pretty highly of him too, talking about how much upside he has and how he will impact the game in like 4 different ways, including offensively.Fair, but I think with the way the organization wants the team to be, he is going to be playing 20 plus in the second year of the contract. he skates too well, has great vision and has the right type of brooding, developing edge to his game. So did I. No worries & based on observation, players going for new contracts often go for a bit higher than what people expect.I had him around $1.2M. Not mad with this signing, at all. Keeps him in RFA territory when his deal is done, too. Great signing!
Cowan wasn't a very smart player, that was his biggest hurdle, then the injuries ended his NHL days.I became concerned about Cowan when he was not used much by the Canadian junior team. 1.6 is a steal. I was expecting 2.5 minimum on a short bridge.
