Playoff Push

Imagine being a Leaves advance scout and you are reporting in the Sens last 3 games, they gave up 1 goal, would look something like this:

Sens goalie > Leaves Goalies
Sens Defense > Leaves Goalies
Sens forward depth > Leaves forward depth
Sens intangibles > Leaves intangibles
Sens Leadership > Leaves leaderehsip

Sens are going to shut out the Leaves on home ice in game 1 and the Toronto crowd is going to wonder why their rich Daddy’s let this happen every year. It’ll be very quiet in the ACC this spring.

Sens have come a long way from when their baby onesies were choking out their baby fans.

The seeding is definitely different. If we were doing 1-8 the Leafs would be playing the Devil's not us as of right now.

It’s basically a hybrid of 1-8, and divisional play
it is 1-8, 2-7 ( divisional winners ranked 1,2)
And the 2-3 divisional matchups.

UPDATE

Our magic number (in points) for the chasing teams are as follows:

NYI - 0 points - not our problem
NYR - 2 points
CBJ - 0 points - not our problem
MTL - 5 points
DET - 2 points

Moneypuck has us as 99.98% to make the playoffs.

Are we catching Florida? I'd probably prefer not. Bring on the Leafs.

GSG!!

No man, that's not how it works lol
Look at the standings. Switch between the wild card view and the conference view

Right now it's actually divisional winner (2) versus (6). This format we have now is seeded differently than the system they used from '98 to 2013 when they introduced the wildcards.

I mean we just passed NJD yesterday, and we're ahead by 1 point. If they end the season ahead of us it will be 2-7. I prefer 1-8 etc myself, but in reality i find the WC system matches up pretty well to what is used to be. The issue is the west coast travel, there was some insane match-ups

@milkbag please explain what is wrong with what I said. That’s EXACTLY how the playoffs work today. Reading comprehension at its best on display.

Lmao acting like a teenager and sending a private DM, act your age dude, here is the DM.
Laugh react when proven wrong? Grow up, old man lol your age is too big to be acting this way.

As I pointed out earlier. The team with the 2nd most points (Dallas) in the West will play the team with the 4th most points (outside chance at 3rd) in Colorado. If you went by division leaders as the top 2 and then seed the rest based on conference, the Stars could not play any team above 6th in the conference.

That Dallas-Colorado series is shaping up to be a bloodbath. In the first round.

It is absolutely different, in certain scenarios.

You've had like 3 people explain to you how you're mistaken at this point. I'll say it one last time-- you keep saying it's 1 vs 8 and 2 vs 7, but with the introduction of the wild card it's actually 2 vs 6 via points at the moment because of how the seeding works.

That’s the old system, 1-8.
I said the current system is a HYBRID of the 2 systems, 1-8 and divisional play., which it is.

You end up with 2 matches the same as the 1-8 format. ( with divisional leaders getting ranked 1-2., playing the 7-8 wild cards)

You end up with 2 matches the same as divisional play. The 2-3 matchups in the division.

Thus a hybrid of the 2 systems.

lol there’s an extremely slim chance we can get home ice but I doubt we catch Tampa

Because of the tiebreaker, we need 5 more points than Tampa, and they have a game in hand.

It is possible but highly unlikely that we pass them.

Still, the upside to taking Florida's spot is that if we beat Tampa, it increases the chance that we get home ice in future rounds. If Florida beats Toronto, and either New Jersey or Montreal somehow make it through the Metro, we would most likely get home ice the rest of the way.

We are going to face Tampa, which is hilarious given the ticket situation. Lots of Leafs fans (both undercover SSMs and Stubhub buyers) are going to take a bath on tickets.
Ideally I want to face the leafs in the first round because if we manage to steal one of their first two home games I think they'll fold big time due to fan and media pressure... But I also want all the leafs fans that are trying to outsmart the ticket system right now to take a fat L. My heart is torn here.

Ahh see now you're adding the "wild card" caveat, which wasn't included before since 7 and 8 wildcard aren't 7 and 8 in points. The ol' goal post movin. Hit me with one of your Facebook-boomer laugh reacts again, baby.

I am 50/50.

If I was watching at home on TV, I would be 100 percent for facing the Leafs. It would have the most drama, and I think we matchup best against them.

I'm already tired of all the BS regarding facing them in the first round. Not only do I dread possibly having to wear a stab proof vest to games, I'm annoyed that if closer to gameday I can't go and I have to throw up a ticket on Ticketmaster it has become so emotionally complicated because not only am I contributing to that atmosphere, but Cyril Leeder might find me at the next game and dunk my head into a toilet.

And even if you take Sens-Devils (right now) and Blues-Oilers (very possible) out of the Wildcard vs. weaker division spots out of the equation, not all divisional qualifiers are created equal.

As I said Dallas is pretty obviously the 2nd best team in the West and the points bear that out. And they will be facing the team with the 4th most points.

Based on pure points earned the West bracket will likely start with:

1-8
2-4
3-7
5-6

That is pretty dodgy, IMO.

Win and we’re in, but we’ll also get in on other teams losing. I’d rather rest some guys, lose a few games and avoid Florida’s tank, and play the Leafs in round one.
