Winner of Tampa /Flo?

Tampa Flo

If the playoffs started today who do we play?

I have no idea

This is the section that is the most relevant to Senator fans at this stage:

The First Round

  • The division winner with the best record in each conference will be matched against the wild-card team with the lesser record
    • The wild card team with the better record will play the other division winner.
So, Washington is the division winner with the best record. So, they would play Montreal which is the wild-card team with the lesser record.

Ottawa, who has the best record among the wild card teams will play Toronto who is “the other division winner” (Toronto, the Atlantic division winner has fewer points than the other division winner which is Washington).

Switch the word "other" to "remaining" and whatever confusion there is around "The wild card team with the better record will play the other division winner" goes away.

Ya, I suppose that (“remaining”) could be a better word, but I was just using the same words as the article you provided a link to.

The wild card team with the better record will play the other division winner. The way I read this is Other division means not the one you are in if 5 teams make it.

We would be the cross over team?

I hate this format.

Bring back 1 through 8.

I think the Sens still end up playing Toronto, but the wildcard system is so damned convoluted. Scrap it.

Who gives a shit about divisional rivalries? I want variety in the playoffs, uncertainty. We've known for a while now what most first round matchups will be. And a 7 beating a 2 or an 8 beating a 1 is always so damned exciting.

Also when the hell do playoff tickets become available for us non season ticket holders? When they officially clinch a spot?

At this point it's looking like Mtl is pretty much a lock for WC2, which is sad and I think they match well vs Caps with their speed will be hard to contain for Washington

Yes they need to clinch before tickets go on sale.

The top two teams in each division should be guaranteed a spot for home ice advantage and then the rest get in on points.

Not necessarily. In the West the Stars will be 2nd in points and will play the 3rd or 4th team in points (Colorado).
Keep in mind, when it was 1-8 before, the 3 division winners were ranked 1-3,
Now with only 2 division winners, they are ranked 1-2.
1-8
2-7
So nothing has changed from before.

A few reasons we wanna pass the panthers.

- Not risk leaf fans invading our barn and getting embarrassed on national TV
- That draft pick we are forfeiting will be higher and minimize the sting a little.
- Better odds at home ice later on in the playoffs once we advance from the first couple of rounds.
- Avoid Leafsnet coverage

The seeding is definitely different. If we were doing 1-8 the Leafs would be playing the Devil's not us as of right now.

The way it is now if one division has the 3 strongest teams in the league they will play one of the top teams in the first round. That sucks for the losing team and for the fans. They should be slotted in in the top 3 spots and get home ice if it were 1-8. Right now Ottawa is stuck in 7th even though they have more points than NJ.

They probably don't or if they do, only in very small quantities. They gave each SSM who renewed and wanted them a pair of two discounted ticket packages (every playoff game). Then they went back last week and sold another round of discounted pairs, but this time with a "no resale" clause/threat. That offer expires tonight, and then they plan to give SSMs first crack at single game tickets.

They sold upwards of 10k full playoff packages per Cyril Leeder during the intermission yesterday. I can only see the map for the 300 level, but there are less than 100 tickets left (eyeballing it, my number might be off). This assumes that they haven't held anything back, which judging by their tone about giving all the tickets to SSMs, I doubt they did.

If you want to get into the first round, pray we seed against Tampa, because despite the no resale threats, I'm sure a lot of people bought with the idea of selling. They still won't be cheap, but a bunch of tickets will go back on the secondary market.

It is pretty clear that they want non-SSMs to know that they missed out on playoff tickets because they didn't subscribe to an SSM package.

For entertainment value, I want to face the Leafs, but as a ticket holder I love the idea of Leafs fans buying up Sens playoff packages and tickets they cannot use, and I'm certainly not looking forward to the "Number 2 bus through Vanier in the year 2010" type vibe that I may or may not encounter at a Leafs game.

The current format is best for entertainment value, but it isn't fair from a competitive POV.

Secretly hoping for this too, a bunch of leaf fans trying to outsmart the sens ticket sales process only for the sens to play Tampa in round one would be beautiful.

How many tickets do you think they will allow SSM or sens on demand package holders to purchase at a time for the single game tickets pre sale?

My point was that the team with the second best record rarely played the team with the 4th best record. That will happen this year.

I get what you're saying though.

I want to see the best teams get the best chance to play for the cup. To me that's entertaining not "rivalries". The gritty 8th seed battling the comfy top seed that might underestimate their opponent. It doesn't happen all the time but an 0-2 start is exciting.
