Having Schenn and Holl play over Liljegren is statistically and eye-test wise purely unjustifiable. Schenn is tough and that’s about it.

Did you not watch the game yesterday? Last night was the perfect example of why a guy like Schenn is valuable. There’s an argument to be made that both Holl and Schenn shouldn’t both be in at the same time.

But I’m not exactly seeing what Timmins or Liljegren is going to bring that may not end up being a liability similar to Holl. Better skaters than Holl but equally as likely to cough up the puck. If anything I think Holl and Liljegren should each get 1 game in the opening 2 and whoever performs better gets that 6th spot.

I have to ask, regarding Schenn.
The box outs, net clearing, hits, cycle busting, scraps.

Does that not jump off the TV when you see it?
Make you excited, make you hit the rewind to see it again?

It does at my house.

And if you don't think it stops the opposition from taking liberty's I disagree with you.

Bunting - Matthews - Jarnkrok
Kerfoot - Tavares - Marner
Knies - O’Reilly - Nylander
Acciari - Kampf - Lafferty

McCabe - Brodie
Gio - Liljegren
Rielly - Schenn

This would be my ideal line up. Fully balanced attack. Match up nightmare, offense on every line. Screw the checking line. These last two months we have been prepping Auston to carry a line on his own. It’s time he does it. Our best chance to win is to separate Matthews, Marner and Nylander. Throw everything we have at Tampa.

You believe Keefe sits Holl?

Last night proved what everyone always knew... they are thugs and cheap shot artists and love a good scrum after every whistle. And they have a few guys with size to back it up. Even though I don't want to see us stoop to that level, we do need to have some toughness in the lineup for sure. Any lineup that doesn't have Schenn in it is craziness, he's proven his worth as steady not flashy, and also able to punch their toughest guy's lights out. If you don't have Schenn in the lineup you better re-do your forward lines and ensure Simmonds is in there somewhere.

Ask the Leaf goalies and i'm sure they'd be quite happy having Schenn keeping the net front honest.

That's my guess on how it starts for game one, or at least what the roster will be.

After last nights game any lineup that doesn’t have Schenn in it gets it’s ass kicked by Tampa

I would be surprised if Knies was in the Game 1 lineup. I think he'll play playoff games but not Game 1.
I think Thursday will decide his playoff chances.

But the jump in play and comfort from Game 1 to Game 2 was noticeable, and let's not forget he has not even had so much as a practice with his teammates, and he still looked that good. Most vets should be so lucky.

IMO there is a clear spot for him to lose.

His progression from game 1 to game 2 was huge. I feel ROR is the right mentor for him. His defensive instinct are solid. In his first game his gaffs were offensive not defensive, so that tempers his liability on the ice.
Imo the last game will be a big factor. If, big if, he makes another leap, you play him game 1 and continually evaluate as the series goes on

Not sure Knies starts over Acciari. Schenn needs to be in the lineup

Holl has been using his size recently and I'm ok with that and having him in over lili.
Should Liljegren find that balance in his game to be more physical, and I think he can, he would easily slot in over Holl

Exactly I think we have to understand that these lineups are fluid. I hope keefe makes the adjustments early this time around

I like the forward lines and agree on the goalies, but I do think Schenn's physicality has its place, especially against Tampa and (hopefully) Boston.

Bunting - Matthews - Marner (18 mins, Scoring line)
Knies - O'Reilly - Nylander (15 mins Heavy line, work pucks deep, secondary scoring)
Kerfoot - Tavares - Jarnkrok (15 mins Defensive zone starts, Matchup line)
Acciari - Kampf - Lafferty (12 mins Defensive zone + energy)
ZAR

McCabe Brodie
Rielly Schenn
Giordano Holl
Liljegren

I'd definitely play him with ROR and Willy tomorrow, but I think he'd have to do really well (entirely possible) to play game 1.

I just posted a lineup, but I gotta say....I think I like yours better lol.

The only thing I might change is the D to have Lilly as the 7th D and have him check in and out of the lineup with Holl.

McCabe Brodie
Rielly Schenn
Giordano Holl
Lilly

Lilly will check in the second Holl has a poor game. But I just feel like Holl is more ready to handle the intensity and physicality of the playoffs. He's also not afraid to block shots.

But all n all, I love your forward lines TBH. Isolate Matthews, let him take away their top matchup center and let him get his looks on the PP. Let everyone else feast as a result

Well done!

I agree but really well imho doesn't include scoring.
If he generates lots of chances and had very limited or zero defensive gaps, I would start him because I think his upside is greater than ZAR and even Kerfoot and I believe, with ROR, he could blossom, not fully, wthin the playoffs
