just a suggestion:

the hat hats kind of get lost in the background when they are seen in normal avatar view...maybe something like this to give them more definition (or another background)

Couple of choices for the base. If you have a full pic of your avatar it probably be the best one to edit. The second choice from your link probably looks the best but couldn’t isolate Dougie’s forehead to cut it out. Damn it!
