They wouldn't in reality, nor would I expect a 2 X Exec of the year GM to make such a move.

However, if you're trading Marner (as 1 of the 3 players in this poll), because of his massive contract, you could see how cap management could be so much better by investing it in more players to build a team around and also higher priority ones like a #1C and #1G instead of a #1winger for what you're currently investing that much cap % in.

So my decision was based on picking the 3 worst Leafs worst contracts. It would be Marner for overpaid contract, Mrazek for overpaid and bad contract, and Holl $2 mil for just be bad overall and needs to go, particularly after than embarasing protecting him the expansion draft and let Seattle have their 27 goal and team leading scorer McCann instead for nearly the same cap $2.9 mil.

PS. Tavares NMC is unmovable, so picking him wouldn't be any more realistic then the point I was attempting to make. :)
Ok. As long as you know they wouldn't make that deal, just as I know we can't trade Tavares.

But we can dream.

Crazy, but maybe the Leafs sit down with the captain and quietly ask him if he'd sit for the upcoming regular season, make use of the created LTIR, trade some other money out and hopefully bring back a much needed extra 1st and maybe a few guys who have a year left on the entry deal and maybe have a serious look at a couple of the bigger names who have some bite in their game.

I put the chance of that at 0%.

1 PPG center and two replacement level players are more valueable than 3 middle of the lineup guys.

Contending teams don't trade their star players because they might lose them two years from now..
Actually it's 1 0.7ppg center (14 in 20 games as a leaf)

JT is a solid 2C in the playoffs or a elite 3C

Not worth 60% of his contract.

His playoff performerances are what people thought Kessel would give us. Except Kessel was great and produced his only year with us

The league got pissed at us for working out in our own facility in the off season they ain't gonna let us ltir JT for shits and giggles

Trade Kerfoot, Holl and Mrazek.
Sign Nichushkin (5ish) and trade/sign for Puljijarvi (2.5ish), sign DeSmith and Comrie, Lazar

Buntin-Matthews-Puljijarvi
Nichushkin-Tavares-Nylander
Robertson - Marner - Kase
Engval - Kampf - Lazar

Mrazek, clearly.

Since this is fantasy land, Tavares too, though in reality:
- He likely wouldn’t waive his NMC
- Finding a trade partner could be tough

After that, arguable been Muzzin, Kerfoot and Holl. Went with Muzzin - he slowed down a bunch this season, then managed to revive his play for the playoffs, but I’m worried with even further a gaining/miles he won’t be able to flick the switch so easily again. His contract is substantial, so this just feels like the safe move.
