Who is the player you most want to see traded? Pick 3!

There are enough teams that would want him at that price. Getting a return that would satisfy the Leafs is another matter.
What could you get for him?

I'd like Brady Tkachuk. Do you think Ottawa would trade Tkachuk for Marner?

I think they'd laugh at us.

Yes but then you are short 3 players instead of just one so that 9 million gets eaten up pretty quick
1 PPG center and two replacement level players are more valueable than 3 middle of the lineup guys.

We're losing nylander in two years anyways might as well get the value now.

Kerfoot 3.5 can be better spent

Mrazek we need his money to not have trash in net
Contending teams don't trade their star players because they might lose them two years from now..

Contending teams also have better then a pylon in net. Which if Jack leaves is what we have back there

You can trade him for a 4/5 million dollar goalie with term or blackwood and come out on top salary cap wise to replace him.

Were way to uncreative with assets

I would argue a stud goalie and or stud Dman is more valuable the 11 million tied up in Tavares

I picked Holl, Mrazek and Simmonds. But I expect Kerfoot and potentially Muzzin to be moved for cap space.

Muzzin, although I like him and he's one of the few guys we got with size and grit is starting to break down from his style of play, so its probably best to move him before its too late

Rielly - Brodie
Gio - Liljegren
Sandin - Luba / Holl

Is the way I see our D next year unless someone comes out of no where or Luba walks. Thats why I left Holl.

Okay but how do you get those without completely gutting the teams depth? Tavares was a free ticket.
At this point in time it’s going to be very very hard to correct those issues. This should have been dealt with along the way of the rebuild not left until now as an after-though.
As far as Tavares goes his signing was absolutely the wrong thing at that point of the rebuilt. He was just a shiny toy that Dubas was trying to,make a splash in his new position.
Tavares has not helped this team one bit…….nothing…….nada.
They still fail to win a single round.
So I really don’t know what the fix is but running the same crap for yet another year hoping to get some value out of the bargain bin yet again is just plain awful

If you trade Tavares this team has no 2C. Hes overpaid now but he's still effective as a 2C, y'all acting like he's James Neal or something.

Mitch Marner ($10.9 mil) + Petr Mrazek $3.8 mil to NYI for Matty Barzal ($7 mil) + Ilya Sorokin ($4.0 mil)

- Leafs get a elite center and starting goalie for the price of Marner for the same $11 mil cap and get to dump Mrazek bad contract in the process.

Justin Holl ($2 mil) + Kyle Dubas to Seattle for Jared McCann ($5 mil) + Ron Francis

- Leafs get to undo the expansion draft, and add a potential 30 goal scoring winger for the Mrazek cap space recovered.

Notes:
- Tavares contract immovable due to NMC so another #11 mil contract OUT, because when Matthews is getting his $16 mil new contract we can't afford another $15 mil mistake to Marner shortly thereafter.
- Ron Francis GM promoted to President/GM who hires Barry Trotz as coach. To remove top heavy unsuccessful management clutter and install the *** Fran-A-Plan ***
- Jack Campbell re-signed as #1B
- "Play the Kids"

I love it when a plan comes together. :)

Doubt Marner alone gets you Barzal and Sorokin. Definitely not attaching Mrazek IMO.

I chose three but really think there are 5 maybe 6 guys that gotta go

as I outlined in my proposal thread, which was locked because as near as I could tell a few people started pointing fingers saying I must be trolling, which btw I wasn't, I was dead serious about it and had written my rebuttal this AM, but no, to say that I'm disappointed with the mods here at times would be understating it.

I find it funny that almost everyone, is always, all the time talking about all the changes the Leafs need to make after yet another 1st round loss, but when somebody suggests the changes necessary and which would obviously need to be radical in order to change the complexion and direction of the team making it more competitive and more physical.

seeing as the suggestions are already in here my new line-up would've been

E. Kane - Matty - Marner

Tavares - JT Miller - Marchement

Bunting - Kampf - Logan Brown

Jason Dickinson - Engvall - Simmonds

Reilly - Lybushkin

Muzzin - Sandin

Gio - Liljegren

Husso

mix and match the RD's as necessary

Wayne can be fully burried in the minors so I don't think it's that big of a deal. Mrazek either has to go or needs to be a machine

Pretty interesting topic. It's a bigger question than most of us can imagine.

I would say that under the cloak of having advanced stats and capologists making objective decisions, Kyle Dubas has made several emotional decisions with this hockey club.

Here is a small list of emotional decisions made by this Shanny/Dubas regime:

1. Acquiring John Tavares. How bad would have TOR been if their top 2 centers were Matthews at number 1 and Kadri at number 2? Paying JT 11 million with 2 elite prospects unsigned was terrible cap management.

2. Trading Nazem Kadri. This was an emotional decision. There was no way this was decided by production/cap hit. Kadri lived on the edge and made judgement errors, but who support him when other teams were getting chippy?

3. Trading Patrick Marleau to CAR for a 1st round pick. I can't imagine any other GM doing this. What would have been the harm in keeping Marleau for 1 more season? Even if he had to play on the 4th line, what would have been the harm? It seems to me this was a knee-jerk/emotional move.

4. This was a minor one, but acquiring Clifford for a 2nd time/using Simmonds for the 1st round of the playoffs against Tampa. I think that Keefe didn't create this on his own. I think that Dubas/Shanny/Keefe drew this up before the playoffs started and it backfired on them. Definitely an emotional decision. Simmonds/Clifford did not contribute in any other way.

I suppose the OP's question can be answered by using this guideline:

What emotional decision would a lame duck GM/Coach/President make this offseason?

Once he blew the cap wad he had no room for Marleau. Sensible thing would have been to scratch him every night until he asked to leave.
I believe Dubas has learned from that blunder.

The poll results seem to speak loudly. Mrazek being the biggest question. Will Dubas award a draft pick to a team that is willing to take him?

Could be.

Okay but Lou screwed the rebuild with terrible drafts, trading 2nd's for 4th line C's and signing over the hill vets to play bigger roles than they should have.

Dubas signing a PPG center is definitely much better than that.
