Great 4th liner as good as we have had in years. He was scoring dirty goals until a freak injury. He is on this team...period.

That injury gave him a lifeline. His agent told Dubas the same thing

The fact is he hasn't been good in 5 years
You are more than welcome to check out his stats

It's not like he can he had a bad outing with one bad team he has had 5 of them

I give him 20 games before everyone realizes his agent is the best in the game and Simmonds just sucks

And Simmonds wasn't even all that sheltered, getting ice time on all 4 lines.

I think the trick is in how they manipulate the stats.
Most of the stats track closely to their correlation coefficient and are probably a better predictor than the finger in the sky method of determining outcomes.
It is a bit disingenuous to point to leading variables like shooting in order to disect the game ....such as shots... and then claim that shots aren't correlated to goals when a person with 25% more shots doesnt score more than another in a limited time frame.

it is an example of the Slothful Induction Fallacy

So he should win the Selke, statistically? Or is better suited in the press box?

Love the Simmonds defenders saying 'disregard pre-season, he'll ramp it up when the season starts'.
Um, where was he in last year's playoffs? Absolute no show, he'll be even worse this year.

We need more guys like Wayner and Hyman who always play da right side of da puck .. does not matter how fast you are or how big you are if you always play da right side of puck against your opponent in pro hockey with even modest skills you can play solid defense .. da best teams get 100% buy in and all players whether bigger, faster or more skilled always do it .. all you have to do is watch an Isles game and they get almost perfect buy in virtually every game .. teams that play properly win most games as you don't have to score very often to win .. and those guys on those type of teams will always have lower offensive numbers which means lower contracts in CAP world

That seems good but is it reality of improved defensive play or a fluke of a short season + injury, 38 games total?

What do his goals against numbers look like over his career or the last 5 years? I'm not going to dig into it myself right now so please do so for me if you like, but I'm fairly confident the answer to that is bad.. they look bad

Dubas is the only person who wanted Simmonds back. I really can't fathom a 2 year deal.

Though production can also be tied to usage.

Imo Spezza is a great example of the Leafs using him in a much smarter way than some of his recent teams like Dallas did and his production rate has jumped up quite a bit.

We can potentially see them do something similar with Simmonds to maximize what he's got left in the tank..

If this cares about accountibility which they don't, Simmonds lasts a max of only one more week on the team. Sadly, this team's motto has been to satisfy the grit crowd the last year then make the right decisions.

Most posters did not want Simmonds on this team because he has zero value.

Utter garbage. Wasting a spot and making us worse at the same time. Dubas, this was an absolute embarrassment

I've been on the fence on Wayne. So far, and just 2 games in, completly useless. Any of us could do what he has done so far.

I was a big fan of the sigining pre-injury last season, and was willing to see it out into this season as maybe he could get something going or make some sort of impact on the game, even in his limited minutes. If that is all he can bring, that is disappointing. But at the end of the day, 4th line, limited minutes... we aren't having overall success because of anything he does.

Well that's not true. That's an opportunity cost for another player who could be developing some Semyonov and maybe heck even Ho Sang

He didn’t have many minutes and had a few hits a couple of shots. I’m not sure what you are asking for from a fourth liner but not every player is Jason Spezza. I would focus on the players that coughed up the puck or looked overwhelmed, Simmonds wasn’t one of them.

Played close to 9 mins. How much time does he need to make any sort of impact

Why should he get more than that? Has he earned anything?

Dudes trash
