Simmonds needs a partner in crime. He's too old to do it all himself. That's why him and Clifford work.

We just need a better version of Clifford. Maybe Curtis Douglas is the future in that role.

Simmonds can still play a role in a pinch. Clifford not at all.

Simmonds definitely showing he can still be an NHLer when the role requires. Ideally a guy you maybe dress 25-30ish games when some added toughness required.

I can see him sticking with the team if the team has the LTIR space to keep him around

Clifford was almost the Simmonds to Simmonds for the rest of the team. Like if you messed with Wayne, there'd be another guy you'd have to contend with. Definitely not ideal and watching him try to lay the body a pace behind the play. But for one night he did help the team stand up a little taller, not take guff in a hostile barn.
